Very sad indeed about the death of The World Tonight on BBC Radio 4, which I first worked for in 1970. But may I recommend my programme, ‘Unspun World’ on BBC Two, iPlayer, the News Channel and BBC World Service? We draw on the superb quality of BBC correspondents worldwide.

@Paytress If there’s any measure of how differently the genuine heroes of ‘66 were treated & rewarded it’s that the last time I saw GH he was having lunch in the Biscot Mill pub in Luton. Mid 80s? Was dressed smart - in a travelling sales rep way - which I now realise was what he was.

@MichaelLCrick Yep. Travesty that the sober, thoughtful ‘The World Tonight’ is being axed. I’m sure it’s true young people don’t listen to it much, but they’ve got plenty of other stuff. I’m not dead yet & hope to be listening to extended news for a few more years!
