Police in Shiga Prefecture arrested a woman in her 70s on charges of shoplifting a 300 yen (USD $1.94) pack of inari sushi. They held her for a full THREE days before admitting she actually *hadn't* stolen anything and that her story that a friend had given it to her was true.

@UnseenJapanSite Detaining a 70-year-old woman for three days over a mere $2 seems a bit extreme. Japan's justice system is really strict, with no presumption of innocence. And unfortunately, people in custody sometimes face neglect and harsh treatment, even sometimes resulting in death.
@emmanueljapon They don't use dollars in Japan. They have their own currency, called the yen.
@emmanueljapon @UnseenJapanSite BIT extreme?
