I've tweeted this story before, but feel like it's relevant again: When I was working for NBC and they hired Megyn Kelly I publicly stated that I thought it was a huge mistake bc I believed Megyn was a racist and had made racist statements. NBC brass hauled me into an HR meeting
NBC HR admonished me and said I "wasn't being a team player and was making them look bad." I said, "You're making yourself look bad with this hire, if I had tweeted or said some of the things Megyn has said, would you still hire me?"
NBC HR quibbled "different network...we don't know about all of that (bullshit)" and said I was hurting the network's credibility. I said "Megyn hurts our network's credibility."
They asked how we would work together if this was out there. I nearly burst out laughing bc I said, "We were never going to work together in the first place, she's on the fourth hour of the Today show and that's a completely separate vertical" (they hate when you use their terms)
NBC HR asked how we were going to resolve it. (Yes, apparently it was up to me to solve, not the multimillion hire) I said, "If she wants to take take ownership and apologize for what she said, I can see about doing the same."
I left the meeting with NBC HR and almost a year to the day later, Megyn was terminated after she said it was ok for white people to wear blackface for Halloween.
Suffice it to say: with everything swirling around the Ronna McDaniel hire, I believe Ronna is either gonna fuck up herself (people rarely change who they are) or the internal turmoil will be too much for the NBC brass to contend with.
Now think about what NBC News could have done with that $300k. - They could have hired more journalists - They could have invested that into more enterprise reporting and investigations Instead, they have flushed $300k down the tubes.
Post script: I left NBC several months after Megyn was terminated bc I wanted to finish up a big investigation I had been working on. It was an investigation I had to fight hard to work on. And five years after I published it, I will have a major update about it soon. Stay tuned
@dprzygoda Do you know if there truth to the story circling around today that her role was part of the negotiation back when @nbc wanted a GOP Primary debate? And that @MSNBC was specifically banned from access to the debate?
@dprzygoda The part I hate the most is they said viewers need/want insight into the MAGA party. How much clearer can we be…we all would be very happy if his name is never spoken again by a reputable news organization. The more their side is presented the more people stop watching.
@dprzygoda My favorite part of Ronna’s Redemption Roadshow was “I go to the grocery store.” As mitigation for her part in an attempted coup it was certainly novel! I look forward to a live follow up segment from the grocery store where she shows us $300k doesn’t go far in Biden’s America.
