I've tweeted this story before, but feel like it's relevant again: When I was working for NBC and they hired Megyn Kelly I publicly stated that I thought it was a huge mistake bc I believed Megyn was a racist and had made racist statements. NBC brass hauled me into an HR meeting
NBC HR admonished me and said I "wasn't being a team player and was making them look bad." I said, "You're making yourself look bad with this hire, if I had tweeted or said some of the things Megyn has said, would you still hire me?"
NBC HR quibbled "different network...we don't know about all of that (bullshit)" and said I was hurting the network's credibility. I said "Megyn hurts our network's credibility."
They asked how we would work together if this was out there. I nearly burst out laughing bc I said, "We were never going to work together in the first place, she's on the fourth hour of the Today show and that's a completely separate vertical" (they hate when you use their terms)
NBC HR asked how we were going to resolve it. (Yes, apparently it was up to me to solve, not the multimillion hire) I said, "If she wants to take take ownership and apologize for what she said, I can see about doing the same."
I left the meeting with NBC HR and almost a year to the day later, Megyn was terminated after she said it was ok for white people to wear blackface for Halloween.
Suffice it to say: with everything swirling around the Ronna McDaniel hire, I believe Ronna is either gonna fuck up herself (people rarely change who they are) or the internal turmoil will be too much for the NBC brass to contend with.
Now think about what NBC News could have done with that $300k. - They could have hired more journalists - They could have invested that into more enterprise reporting and investigations Instead, they have flushed $300k down the tubes.
@dprzygoda What really makes no sense to me is that "never trump" viewers won't watch her & since he basically trashed her by forcing her out of the RNC, MAGA believers are most likely not going to rush to NBC from Fox to hear what she has to say. What is the upside?
@dprzygoda I'm hoping she will be charged by doj.
@dprzygoda @MalcolmNance I don’t think they’ll actually fire her because they won’t want to publicly back down but it wouldn’t surprise me if she just never shows up on NBC news.
@dprzygoda @MalcolmNance The way she responded to questions yesterday on MTP when pressed makes it look like she's not going to respond well when challenged about supporting coup attempts. If she makes it to the election, I'll be surprised.
@dprzygoda @MalcolmNance It's a lot cheaper to pay her out and say "oops" than it was for them with Megyn Kelly'. It also allows Ronna to go back to what she does best for a living. Although maybe the MAGA TV channels/sites will extract a pound of flesh after her sleeping with the enemy.
@dprzygoda @nbc openly ignored this Ronna McDaniel scandal as did the other major outlets politico.com/news/2022/04/0….
