Yes StackOverflow was the embodiment of "The Duality of Man". On one hand, StackOverflow was an incredible resource to learn. I personally learned a lot simply from browsing popular posts and answers. It allowed me to learn so much about C from discovering unusual questions and amazing solutions proposed by truly talented programmers. On the other hand, StackOverflow wasn't a very "friendly" place. StackOverflow spawned so many memes because of how toxic the moderation could be. The most well-known meme (or reference) is probably "Marked as Duplicate" (it wasn't a duplicate). LLM's aren't perfect, but they're absolutely amazing for programming. Yes, sometimes they hallucinate, but when you take an LLM and augment it with a willingness to learn and the ability to double check things, you'll get exponentially better and FAST. When you take something that can help you learn faster, more efficiently, that can be tailored to you, can answer questions without discrimination, and will answer "duplicate questions" without hesitation, ... yes your forum will suffer. This isn't surprising though. When I began programming we didn't have StackOverflow. We relied on distributed MSDN ISO's, IRC, or other various forums. StackOverflow was peak. StackOverflow probably killed hundreds, possibly even thousands, of other small to medium sized communities and forums. Unfortunately, like all other previous tech, StackOverflow will be replaced by something which is superior. It isn't necessarily bad, but that's how it goes. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ tl;dr adapt or die
they milked stackoverflow to train their ai models, tossed it aside like trash, and now nobody even uses it anymore
