@JackPerksPhoto @WildFishCons Weirs and dams do pose a huge problem, but are also one of the few things slowing the spread of signal crayfish. I do worry that the impact on crayfish isn’t adequately assessed when considering their removal.

@RussellB1ggs They cause a huge problem for fish and other animals, but I rarely see mention that they are just about the only thing slowing the spread of signal crayfish. It’s great they’re being removed, but I worry that a thorough assessment of local crayfish populations isn’t always done.

@TetZoo I’ve just finished reading the copy I got for Christmas and it’s fantastic! I actually struggled to put it down 😂 So much scientific info conveyed in such a readable way and lots of lovely photos and illustrations. It’s my new favourite!

WE ARE STILL HERE... BUT ONLY JUST. This post isn’t easy to write. But we need to be real with you all. Right now, our small charity is under immense pressure. Every day, our phones don’t stop ringing ,emergency services, domestic violence teams, police, and individuals in desperate need are reaching out to us for help. Not because they want to, but because we’ve become their only hope. This past week, we’ve dealt with one of the most extreme safeguarding cases we’ve ever seen. A dog, trapped in the middle of an unthinkable situation ,we got them out and safe. But the reality is... that was just one of many. Dogs are coming into our care DAILY. We’re being contacted from all over the UK. Yet, we receive NO FUNDING from the services relying on us. We’ve had to urgently bring on new team members at the sanctuary just to keep up and more dogs are on their way. Every life we take in costs the charity, and our vet bills are growing by the day. It’s terrifying. We know we’ve been quiet on socials, but that’s not because we don’t care. It’s because we are drowning in cases and trying to keep up. We're helping a client with severe trauma through rehabilitation ,she’s doing amazing, but therapy costs money. We’re attending endless meetings with her with housing, medical, welfare. We’re trying to plan fundraising ,but we barely have time to breathe. We are a small charity with big hearts, and we stand for the dogs who can’t speak up for themselves. We don’t walk away from the hard cases we walk into them. This is where we need YOU. Whether it’s £1, £5, £10, or £100, every single donation makes a difference. We’re fighting for these dogs, and we’re fighting for the people who love them but are trapped in situations they never chose.
