🎉🚂 Our big secret, (or three) is out!
BNSF is proud to unveil today three specially painted locomotives honoring America’s 250th birthday, units 250, 1776 and 2026, wrapped in red, white, and blue and carrying the spirit of “We the People.”
These locomotives pay tribute to our nation’s story and the railroaders who’ve helped shape it for nearly two centuries.
They’ll be traveling our 32,500‑mile network, celebrating the communities we serve, our rich history and the people who keep America moving.
Here’s to 250 years of freedom, connection and the railroad that helped build it.

Transportation choice should not be a luxury.
This @guardian piece is a reminder that Americans need more practical ways to move, including transit, trains and alternatives to driving.
Passenger rail is part of that future.

Flagging-Off of the First Train Equipped with Anti-Drag Feature in CMRL Phase-1 Enhanced passenger safety for CMRL commuters
Chennai Metro Rail Limited (CMRL) has achieved a significant milestone in passenger safety today with flagging-off of the First Metro Train fitted with the Anti-Drag feature for passenger operation. The train is flagged off by Thiru. Manoj Goyal, Director (Systems and Operations), in the presence of senior officials of CMRL, Thiru. S. Ramasubbu (Advisor – Electrical), Thiru. Gopinath Mallaya (Chief Advisor – Operations & Maintenance), Thiru. A.R. Rajendran (Chief General Manager – Rolling Stock), Thiru. S. Satheesh Prabu (General Manager – Operations & Maintenance), and Thiru. C. Balamurugan (Additional General Manager – Rolling Stock) and the contractor’s higher officials from M/s Faiveley Transport Rail Technologies India Pvt Ltd and M/s Alstom Transport India Limited along with other officials and staff of CMRL and the contractors.
The Anti-Drag feature is an additional safety layer incorporated into the automatic sliding saloon doors of CMRL Phase-1 trains, over and above the existing obstacle detection system already in place. The feature is specifically customised for Indian conditions, where passengers, particularly women, often wear sarees, shawls, and dupattas that may inadvertently become trapped in closing doors.
The system is designed to detect pulling force exerted in any direction when a garment or object is caught between the doors. Upon detection, the train brakes are automatically applied and train movement is stopped. The affected door reopened to release the trapped object. Once the obstruction is cleared, normal train operations resume seamlessly.
Achievement of the above marks the First implementation of the Anti-Drag safety feature in Indian metro and probably the first time in the World that this has been implemented in accordance with the latest version of the international standard EN 14752:2025. The feature has been jointly developed and integrated by M/s Chennai Metro Rail Limited, M/s Faiveley Transport Rail Technologies India Pvt Ltd, Hosur and M/s Alstom Transport India Limited, Bengaluru for Chennai Metro.
Following the successful flagging-off of the First equipped train, CMRL is actively progressing with the implementation of the Anti-Drag feature across the remaining 51 trains of CMRL Phase-1.
