Focus on those who love you -- not those who were "supposed" to love you but don't. Please explain this to people of all ages. Get books on healing your inner child/dealing with abusive parents.
So many people are suicidal because their parents made them feel as though their feelings didn't matter and/or as if they were a burden. You're already here. Make friends and disown your abusers. If you need them for resources: find safe spaces online and/or outside your home.
The issue isn't disabilities themselves, but the fact that people can't CONSENT to being born and experiencing those disabilities -- or anything else for that matter. It's all about consent.
Many disabled people need help with daily tasks and many parents hurl out abuse when/if they help then try to excuse it with "I'm tired" etc. Victims are silenced because natalists ignore the fact that parents force their children to be dependent on them just by creating them.
I'm grateful that I know great parents, but people really need to understand that there is ALWAYS a possibility that your offspring might need 24/7 care for their rest of their life at ANY point and most people aren't emotionally ready for that AND our systems don't support them.
@AITA_reddit This is exactly the type of thing that keeps most people dating within their class group: most people seriously don't get how people of other classes live, and the higher income partner often ends up feeling used. She should have just broken up with him.
None of us can ever be a hero or a savior. All forms of harm are the result of wrong thinking: a lack of prioritization of harm reduction just because living itself leads to harm and suffering. Our only mission is to clear this distortion and the river of peace will flow.
It's unfortunate because this form of paternalistic helping/saviorism turns up in many forms. Most people want to help, but they fear critique and judgment due to a lack of cultivation of self compassion. This is unfortunately common in the vegan community.
Right now my brain can't even handle second-hand accounts of how much the work of special education teachers is undone by other staff, parents, and the world at large. Please, please, please fight for public education regarding trauma and other forms of neurodiversity.

The first tweet is also related to benevolent sexism and all types of saviorism. You clean the beach, but don't protest the companies. You stop eating animals, but don't address government subsidies of their torture and slaughter. Do intersectional work.
Tell everyone who hasn't reproduced yet: you already have your hands full with yourself and caring for those who already exist around you. Stop trying to find an easy way to be a hero in someone's story: that way isn't easy anyway.
Vowing to protect someone benefits you more than it does them. The danger still remains, and now they're also dependent on you with no guarantee that you'll truly be able to protect them. It's easy to make promises. It's harder to hope and do the work to end the danger.
