Teacher tip from my 8th grade history teacher. He said the first day of class have students put down name, where they live, parents/grandparents names, siblings. He said in small communities people know everyone and this will help you know/ understand their background.

This is my grandfather. I never got to meet him but I was named after him. Everyone has told me that he was one of the hardest working men they ever met. Spent his adult life in the coal mines of eastern Kentucky.

I have been approached a couple of times about writing a book about Cassidy’s journey from the mountains to UK. From starting at age 3 to ACL surgeries to now her life has been filled with obstacles that many don’t know about. Obstacles not injury related. Maybe one day🤷‍♂️

My new favorite player in the NFL. He said exactly what I told my players when I coached them. It’s not personal from a coach but when they jump you they see something in you that even you didn’t know was there.

My favorite moments coaching: the bus rides, the meals after games, the overnight trips. Why those? Thats when you get to know the kids best. You hear what’s going on with them outside of the sport.

Didn’t know until today that Mama Rosa’s pizza is longer being made. They were bought out and discontinued a couple of years back. One of my favorite pizzas you could buy at a store. I just thought they were out of stock at Food City. A big disappointment for sure ☹️

We look at all of these 5 star players in America but I always refer back to something Pitino said. “I would not trade John Pelphery for any player in America!” He said that because John did a little bit of everything, played with pride and was the glue of the team.

I think it’s funny to see so many kids post pics of AAU stating how much they love basketball but they never work out. They play games all summer but never take the time to get better and do skill work.

When I coached we prayed before and after games. I allowed them to step out during prayer if they didn’t want to pray. I respected their decision. But I wasn’t going to change my beliefs because of theirs. And I didn’t push my beliefs on them.
