Being the Head Coach is tough. A lot of people think coaches just get Gatorade dumped on them and yell. That's not what it's about. You navigate difficult situations, that come out of nowhere, that you did not create, but will affect you.
@chris_parker222 Coaching is managing unpredictable chaos at times indeed….
@chris_parker222 Many difficult situations are in fact created by coaches who lack emotional savvy and are thus ineffective at connecting and leading young athletes.
I never been a head coach but I have coached under some that have won state titles and coached under some that have abysmal records. Just my opinion, I think a lot of people make it harder than the job is. If the most important things to you in order 1. ALL of your players 2. ALL of your assistants 3. Support staff 4. Teachers, school staff, and admins 5. Yourself And you make decisions based off that, you will very likely be an elite head coach. Even if you aren’t elite in Xs and Os. You can always hire assistants that are elite in Xs and Os. But your skills as a manager will lead you to success if your priorities are in order.
@chris_parker222 Being coach in general, assistant or head coach at any level, is hard. The time and commitment they put in deserves a lot of respect👊
@chris_parker222 Few people understand all the jobs a head coach has besides coaching the sport...like manager, accountant, travel agent, counselor, recruiter/sales, compliance, marketing, fundraiser, customer service, etc. There is a lot that goes on behind the scenes that no one sees.
@chris_parker222 I’ve been a HC for 27 years. What you say is 100% true.
@chris_parker222 The X's and O's are probably #8-9 on the list when it comes to being the HC. Kudos to us all!
