"...the feeling of separation born out of desperation - to avoid debt, at such an early age in life, before he's even earned his first wage, doesn't bear thinking about until it does." Read new blog by Chris: changingrealities.org/blog/to-what-d…

Participants from @changing_r shared their views on the plans: "It will put folk off claiming altogether, due to the stress caused by scrutiny of unsuspecting members of the public." (Beverley W)
@changing_r "I think that the government's idea of being able to view benefit claimants' bank accounts is horrendously intrusive. And also begs the question which benefits? Child benefit? UC? PIP/DLA? State pension? I think it’s very over the top. And where will it end?" (Celia I)
"Monitoring bank accounts raises concerns about the privacy of individuals and could lead to a feeling of being watched or monitored. This could have a negative impact on people's trust in the government." (Bev Q)
"I find this deeply worrying and troublesome. How long before there is a data breach and the hacked information is leaked online? How long before the government decides what you spend your money on is considered a luxury?" (Lili K)

"I find this deeply worrying and troublesome. How long before there is a data breach and the hacked information is leaked online? How long before the government decides what you spend your money on is considered a luxury?" (Lili K)
Participants from @changing_r shared their views on the plans: "It will put folk off claiming altogether, due to the stress caused by scrutiny of unsuspecting members of the public." (Beverley W)
Those likely to get caught up in these speculative searches are some of the most marginalised people in society, including children living in poverty. Such wide-ranging powers could drag claimants into fraud and error investigations where there are no grounds for suspicion. 2/n
Today, members of the House of Lords will be debating the Data Protection and Digital Information Bill. The provisions outlined in the Bill would give the DWP further powers to access claimant data, including data held by banks. This is invasive and disproportionate. 1/n
