I went to this exact ski resort on two separate days last weekend, including on a powder day, and I did not have to sit in a single minute of traffic because -- as this article does not note, at all -- Amtrak runs a direct train from Denver to the base. outsideonline.com/outdoor-advent…
Your eight-hour traffic jam for a powder day is not worth it. Follow the lead of @jaredpolis (@GovofCO) and support plans to expand Amtrak service to ski resorts in Colorado.
@caro Good info, thanks! I had no idea Amtrak had trains to CO resorts 🤓🤓
@caro We really need passenger train service from Vancouver to Whistler for the same reason. Europe has rail to the mountains dialed in. North America would benefit from the same.
@caro I have a day to kill in CO between work conferences but it looks like I'm too late in the season - good to know about this though. amtrak.com/winter-park-ex…
This is pretty much the perfect use case for regional rail. Getting a bunch of people from a city center to a specific destination. It wouldn't make sense to invest a ton in commuter rail, or a subway. This isn't a stop on the way anywhere else. But it solves a significant traffic problem by being much more efficient. We should be seeing rich people splurge on fancy first class seats, and die hard skiers getting up early to catch the first train of the day, etc. And obviously a bunch of blogs and YouTubers talking about this.
