Oh wow, this is something I just realized could be an interesting feature for Podscan.fm: fact verification. Every podcast episode could have a "verifyable truthiness score", stating how likely claims made in it are provably true. Thoughts?
And to be clear: this isn't to tell people if the podcast speaks the truth or not: the Podscan audience is businesses such as sponsors, advertisers, marketers, researchers. The "verification score" would at BEST be an early indicator for them to either look into or skip a particular show.
@arvidkahl lot of fact checking so far has been parochial or influenced by bias. why not keep it raw and let people be their own judge?
@arvidkahl I wonder what kind of bias this might introduce to the audience. Many fact checking services have turned out to be quite opinionated. Concept seems interesting. But I remain skeptical.
@arvidkahl I feel like that should be a separate service and doesn’t really fit into the podscan value prop
@arvidkahl This is an interesting idea, how do you imagine it working for podcasts in the comedy genre where certain things are said for comedic value?
I just saw a statistic graphic on X showing that roughly 98% or so of “experts” are of the same political party here in the US. Incorporating fact checking will likely alienate the other side since one side essentially gets to decide what is misinformation. The intent is good but it will likely make you enemies.
