🎉Our paper “Towards Efficient Data Wrangling with LLMs using Code Generation” has been accepted at @deem_workshop at SIGMOD! We envision a hybrid approach that utilizes LLM to generate code and apply on per row basis for data wrangling. Work done at @motherduck w/ @tdoehmen
Wanted to analyze a 22GB csv file at work. I am used to unix pipes with sed, cut, etc. Reached for @duckdb this time. So fast. Feels like playing around with a small text file. The repl is excellent. Could also (zstd) compress it to a 1.4GB parquet file with no performance loss.
First Look at #PowerQuery connector to #DuckDB, still Alpha Quality but it works, running Direct Query on Delta Table synced from #Onelake in your laptop is very cool !!! probably it will be more useful when certified and used in the service !!! youtu.be/Hn2EEQpITvI
Hey Peeps, Just a reminder: I will be presenting on DuckDB's CSV Reader History this Friday, the 5th of April, at 4 PM (UTC+2 - Amsterdam Time). Hop in if you want to learn why parsing CSV files is a bit harder than it looks! Zoom Link: cwi-nl.zoom.us/j/84016314051?…

This is fantastic advice for potential contributors to OSS projects. Speaking from experience, it can be really painful for a maintainer to say “no” to a large unexpected PR that is taking a project in a different direction than the maintainer’s (often under documented) vision.…

I've always been excited about the hybrid client/server execution model in @motherduck but seeing how well the WebAssembly client works with @uwdata Mosaic is even more exciting. In the video below I am looking at 10m data points in my browser.
Hey @Safeway I’m giving you a last chance to respond before we dig in: Your entire system of “discounts” and “specials” requires apps, taking photos, scanning and so many other things that people like my blind mother can’t possibly participate in. By your own advertisements, 1/
China interfered constantly with GitHub to make it barely usable for Chinese residents: DNS poisoning, throttling, blocking subdomains. They don't let us run our apps there. We shouldn't let them run important apps in our country.
One of the best parts of moving Tad to @duckdb 3 years ago was being able to throw out the fast but monstrous C++ CSV parser code I hacked from the sqlite shell. DuckDb's CSV parser was faster and vastly better at column type inference. And it has gotten _much_ better since,…

One of the best things about working at @motherduck is the awesome engineering work happening at every level of the stack. This is a great example -- an awesome custom storage layer for @duckdb that supports snapshots, zero-copy clone and immutable object stores like S3.

Static declaration and checking of exceptions is one of the few features of Modula-3 that didn't make it to the modern landscape -- friction was just too high I think. 25 years later, trying desperately to add systematic exception handling to some TypeScript, I really miss it.

@AdamRackis @EffectTS_ My current mental model, which the maintainers might disagree with, is this: Effect should be treated like a new language, like Elm or ReScript, that happens to use TypeScript syntax. This language has a ton of benefits. Strongly-typed errors. Built-in handling of complex…

As modern web apps become more realtime and collaborative (Figma, Canva, Notion, Linear, etc.), systems and frameworks are being actively developed to support this need. On a high level, I find them bucketing into one of these approaches:

@_sheyworth Often true, though in this case, the server is querying, serializing, and returning 1.2MB of JSON. That sounds more expensive than doing some math on the server and returning 6 numbers.
