🧵i tweeted this a few months ago and got ✨dragged✨but the real question i was asking is: where do we hear about the pain and inner lives of men? i asked a male friend this question and he replied, "no one wants to hear about men's inner lives." /1

@emilykmay The most expressive music I’ve heard men sing at the top of their lungs is angry emo/punk/metal, as if they’re allowed to express their pain and grief as long as it’s wrapped in anger and frustration. The “real men don’t cry” mentality is so unfair to men because… yes they do.
@emilykmay And I think we as a society would be better if men were allowed to express the full range of human emotion without it being seen as weird or embarrassing.
@akaGhostBird @emilykmay have you ever considered that men just feel things differently than women do? that our responses to sadness and pain are different from yours? we just generally tend to default to those types of expression (anger, frustration, despair) rather than the typical feminine responses.
@akaGhostBird @emilykmay There’s a reason Metallica became so popular. For me, their music was the release.
