Sekiro really felt like a step up for FromSoftware's animation choreography, which is saying something, because it was already excellent even in earlier games. Giving similar animations to Emma/Isshin and Wolf/Owl is both narratively satisfying and such a clever use of assets.
It's interesting how Emma and Isshin seem like they may potentially use the same animations, retargeted for their models, but Owl's feel like unique recreations of Wolf's style. It makes sense enemies can share, but adapting player animations to an enemy changes the criteria.
@ZullieTheWitch Having them side by side going through the moves simultaneously really underlines your point here. Nicely done.
@ZullieTheWitch I'm a few days late to the party but I just finished the game for the first time and I'm all about it. It's a stunning achievement. From top to bottom a class act.
@ZullieTheWitch Yea-a-a-ah... When Owl Mikiri-counter's you first time - it finally hits you for real: "Oh, right! He's the guy who taught you...".
@ZullieTheWitch Interesting how Owl is faster than Wolf, despite his age and greater size.
@ZullieTheWitch Every time I see this game, it just makes me wish I enjoyed the gameplay more... Such a shame...
@ZullieTheWitch I love how Emma and Isshin have the same grapple where they pick you up and slam you into the ground, but you can tell Isshin does it with way more force
@ZullieTheWitch Oh my god, not to mention Owl being the only one who can punish your mikiri counter feels like an “Of fucking course he can do that” moment
