We held a meeting with Estonian President @AlarKaris. Today is a special format of cooperation – Ukraine and the Nordic Baltic States. I thank Estonia for organizing our work here today. The President and I discussed the key things that matter right now: clear movement in diplomacy, strengthening air defense, and support for our progress toward membership in the European Union. We very much expect strong political decisions by the European Union that can and should be made already this summer. Ukraine has done everything necessary to open six clusters in the membership negotiations, and it is now, at the upcoming European Union meetings, that decisions on this should be made. There are no obstacles. And it is important that this progress is made – that the clusters are opened – and that the Russians also see that Europe keeps its promises and does not give up its interests.

Putin does not want peace. Thats why the West must help Ukraine attain the weapons they need and to put crippling sanctions on Russia. Putin needs to feel the pain and realize combat gains are hopeless. The U.S. House took action last week.

This happened because people refused to let it fail. Hundreds of calls and letters to congressional offices. Ukrainian-Americans, American advocates, diplomats, and engaged citizens working for weeks in parallel. organised, persistent, people-to-people advocacy — and it produced a result. The bill authorises $8 billion in loans to Ukraine and NATO allies under the Foreign Military Financing program, plus over $1 billion in additional funds covering Ukraine’s security needs, Baltic regional security, and Radio Free Europe. The measure also includes targeted sanctions on Russian oil and banking sectors — hitting the financial infrastructure that funds Russia’s war machine directly. As one Republican congressman who voted yes put it: “Stand on the side of freedom and democracy, or show weakness to an invading thug. I have always supported regular order. However, the members of the House of Representatives decided the Ukraine Support Act should come to the floor and be given a vote of conscience. For the past four years, Russia has committed war crimes against the country of Ukraine — from raping women to killing innocent civilians to kidnapping children and sending them to the frontlines. In recent days, Putin has only increased his barbaric attacks — which include the use of three hypersonic missiles fired at Kyiv — reiterating his utter disdain for peace. Today’s bipartisan vote sends a strong message to Ukraine that we support them and a clear message to Putin that we stand against Russian tyranny.
