This needs to be said. Parents If your son is undersized as a kid (little league age) and he is a tireless worker, that is competitive by nature. Be patient, he's going to pass the majority of the early bloomers. It can actually be an advantage in the long run.
You can demand a better standard without demeaning them. You can hold them accountable without shaming them. You can challenge them without crushing them. You can correct them without embarrassing them. Call people up, not out.
Refuse to be so focused on where you want to be that it robs the joy of being where you are now.
You know that kid on a 14u team that’s one of the top 4-5 players, but definitely not the best because he’s smaller than everyone else and not shaving yet? Yeah, that guy will end up being the best HS player of the group 90% of the time. I’ve seen it over and over again.

COACHES: Coaching today's generation of kids is about relationships and connecting with them. Players will still "run through walls" for you if they know, like, or trust you. It's not enough that you care about them. They have to know that you care about them.
