Mr Burnham. On a different topic. This morning having watched BBC Breakfast I sent the following post to your Secretary of State for Defence: Mr. Streeting. I don't know if you saw this item on BBC Breakfast this morning, but I assume you are aware of it. It reported that the Ministry of Defence has overpaid Army veterans on their pensions for several years, leading to a total of £5 million. The pensioners concerned have now been told the will receive hundreds less a month, and must pay back the excess payment. The veteran who appeared on the programme has been told he must pay back £30,000, which he does not have. When he received an increase to his pension he actually inquired if it was correct and was assured there was no error. I think it is a disgrace to require veterans to repay this money; when you bear in mind we spend 3 times that total a week housing illegal immigrants. It should be written off and an apology made to all affected.
