@NabiaLoverio @sharghzadeh It was the Eastern Roman Empire. Everyone and themselves called themselves Romans. The term Hellenic meant pagan at the time. They even called their language Ρωμέικα. They didn't adopt Greek as their main language until the 6th century.

@egotis10 @sharghzadeh We called ourselves Romans not Byzantines. Byzantium is a term invented because Westerners wanted sole claim over the legacy of the Roman Empire. That's why they crowned Roman Emperors when already there was a Roman Emperor in Istanbul.

@MasterMaliq CCP wants control. Islamic law is a problem. CCP also wants to sinicize religion. This is why the Hui Muslims (Chinese Muslims) have very few issues and the Uyghurs get treated like an insurrection.

@MasterMaliq Majority of Muslims in China are Hui Chinese. They live fine, except the CCP is trying to sinicize religion through the Han Kitab. The Uyghurs did a rebellion that led to 1300 dead around 13 years ago. That sealed their fate.

@ianmiles Iran was always an empire. It's always been multiethnic. It's not a nation state. It's never functioned as one. And even the ethnicities as patrilineal which is why you don't see people saying they half this and half that.
