To be fair, most lawyers in the space weren’t pushing for unrestricted player movement. The goal, in my opinion, was to eliminate restrictions that were anti competitive, and created without any bargaining or athlete representation. Sometimes it takes a full pendulum swing. 🤷

I believe this will result in another arms race and recruiting pitch for top tier schools. Providing the best opportunities in house, or through a third party contractor, including legal, and marketing support, will be critical.

DI Council adopts rules allowing schools to assist student-athletes with NIL opportunities, if those student-athletes disclose NIL activities valuing $600+ to their schools. Decision is not final until the meeting concludes Thurs. and must be ratified by DI Board next week.

Some college athletes are being tempted to transfer by bad deals with certain collectives that look great until you dig into the details, or due to bad advice from those around them who will or could possibly benefit. Athletes should be careful about who's advising them.
Transfer portal athletes NEED to hire an attorney to review their collective deals. Make sure you are signing what you think you are signing. Also, my services are billed by time spent NOT by a flat rate %. No need to give away 5-20% to a “marketing rep” or “NIL Agent.”

If it wasn't already top of mind, operationalizing "NIL" just became an undeniable reality for athletic departments.
Settlement discussions in the House case are getting more serious. If a settlement does happen, it will likely include a revenue sharing model that schools can opt into. An agreed upon rev sharing cap of around $20M is being discussed.

Settlement discussions in the House case are getting more serious. If a settlement does happen, it will likely include a revenue sharing model that schools can opt into. An agreed upon rev sharing cap of around $20M is being discussed.
