I recently told a few people at work about my mental health problems, including my BPD. I feel really exposed. Disclosing this kind of stuff has got easier over the years, but it’s still not ‘easy’.
Better to talk than keep it all in. Only when talking with people who don’t judge or jump to conclusions though…
Have you ever used a mood tracker or mood diary? Was it helpful? Was it able to capture the range of emotions & their changes accurately enough?
Sometimes the people I find it easiest to talk to about my experience of serious health problems are unexpected. Often it’s easier with people who have little to no formal training.
Is there a particular type of therapy that helped you the most? For me it was DBT, but I know others have a different experience.
I never know when I’ve crossed the line and strayed into ‘oversharing’ territory. I know I feel embarrassed a lot about saying ‘too much’. Why do I find it so hard to hold back? Can anyone relate to me?
The more you accept yourself, the less room there seems to be for shame about anything and everything (in my experience).
Anyone who put on a so-called ‘brave face’ because it felt too hard or too unsafe to show your true emotions, I see you.

Sometimes in work or social situations if I’m anxious, I start talking & then I think things like: - why am I saying this? - what is the other person thinking? - do I sound silly? - am I making sense? Then I re-start my sentence or double back on myself with my words.
I’m expressive, talkative, excitable, emotional- it’s who I am. I used to be embarrassed about it, but these days I’m trying to embrace it and be prouder of who I am. It’s not easy though.
If you have #BPD, what does friendship mean to you? Do you think you experience friendships differently to people who don’t have BPD?

@TalkingAboutBPD I think sometimes an “us and them” attitude develops or is amplified when people undertake training/education. I’ve often noticed people make comments which demonstrate no consideration that people in the same class/workshop may have experience of serious mental illness.

A gem in my life. I value my friendship to my bone & kept <10 people closely that has incredible standards. They are intelligent, resilient, resourceful. I don't go shallow with friendship. I know each one of their value & principles.
If you have #BPD, what does friendship mean to you? Do you think you experience friendships differently to people who don’t have BPD?
BPD used to be my inner demon I constantly fought relentlessly, the battle last long enough till it make more sense to just join them. I joined them gracefully and they're no longer my demon.
I know there is a lot of criticism of the #BPD diagnosis (and for good reason), but I am still really grateful for my diagnosis. I wouldn't want to get rid of it as it helps me understand myself. How do you feel?
@TalkingAboutBPD I think it’s the reason I don’t have friends. I have 2 friends that I hardly talk to now bcuz we live in different states but if I were to see them tomorrow it’ll be like we never left each others side. It’s hard to make new friends bcuz I feel like I’m being judged all the time.
@TalkingAboutBPD it’s horrible, hot & cold, splitting on my closest friends, perceiving anything as rejection & i’ll never talk to them again 🙃 the ones who understand don’t take things personally, but i don’t feel like anybody truly gets me bc they’re not like this
Sometimes I feel like my friends will leave me so either I leave them first or beg them to stay. :(
