#ChristmasMemories In 1984 local amateur theatre group Encore Express entertained the crowds during half-time of the Boxing Day derby match between Streatham Rovers and Norbury United by staging a mock execution of an IRA terrorist. #SRFC #UpTheGreyhounds #NeverStopNotGivingUp
@StreathamRovers A young Eddie Marsan as "the Terrorist" if I'm not mistaken.
@StreathamRovers Pretty sure that's a my dad in the stands there
@StreathamRovers wouldn't be allowed to do this these days due to copyright enforcement etc.
@StreathamRovers Comments that said the crowd sang ‘you’ll never walk alone’ are totally false. The crowd actually sang ‘you’ll never walk again’.
@StreathamRovers It shows you how times have changed that at half time now you get the under 9s having a kick about but, back then, it was ‘parade the mentalist’ and mock executions. Did any of the Boxing Day games ever have the excitement or interest of the half time show?
@StreathamRovers Hard to deny that football was better in the 80s. If that happened today, sky sports would have fireworks, flashing lights and little mascot soldiers and terrorists. Poor taste imho tbf imo. Something need to be done about it. Games’s gone.
@StreathamRovers Norbury United, now there’s a team. Legendary in their day.
