South Africa had a huge starting advantage: natural resource rich + inherited decent public infrastructure & legal system by the Dutch & Brits. You can replace South Africa with any African, LatAm or SEA country and get a similar result. Not all EMs are built the same.

They took my GAZ bank funds ($sber divvy) to Dubai, then transferred it to my SA a/c from their Dubai a/c.

@JevarisTheGreat @jbulltard1 Since start of the jan 2000 until today, energy, when accounting for dividends, outperformed tech. $XLE 525% vs $qqq 504%-so wouldn't call it kicked in nuts. No doubt tech was in a bubble in 2000's so comparison a bit unfair, but would argue their multiples are pretty rich today.

@jbulltard1 Commodities outperformed 1930's, 70's/80's, 2000-2009, which were cyclical periods of outperformance not trades. Once again, investing in something based on its outperformance these last 2 decades, is more reason why it will underperform the coming decade.

@jbulltard1 Also showed $xom. $xle outperformed $qqq in last 3 yrs. Commodities are cyclical-with boom busts for over/under investment. You can be bias to any historical timeframe but dunking on its underperformance is more reason to consider their outperformance this coming decade.
