Wow, Viktor Hovland has withdrawn from his singles match "due to the recurrence of a neck injury" but will get a half point. This is ridiculous! With Europe's lead, it actually helps them to have an injured player. According to Data Golf, the US win probability fell from 1.5% to 1%. There is an incentive for Hovland not to play, which should never be the case. What a terrible rule!

As lopsided as this Ryder Cup has seemed, it's really just come down to a difference in putting performance. According to Data Golf, Europe has gained 9.55 strokes putting as opposed to 7.70 strokes total. The US has actually gained 1.85 strokes tee-to-green.
7 of the last 8 majors have been won by Americans. It seems like the best way to tailor a course to the American team would be to give it a major championship setup. It's odd that the US has leaned into such a benign setup of Bethpage. Players like Harris English qualified because of their performance in majors, so why are we turning a major championship-caliber course into an easy tour stop?

A lot of people probably think the double bogeys on 15 and 17 came from over aggression, but they may have actually come from under aggression. Rory hit a soft cut off of the tee on 15 that only went 294 yds. In contrast, Bryson hit his drive on 15 351 yds. If Rory had hit a hard draw that had gone 350, his approach probably would have held the green and he never would have been faced with the difficult chip in the first place. Similarly, on 17, he hit 3-wood 294 yds to the right rough, leaving himself 171 yds to the hole. If he had pushed it farther down with driver, he would have been able to control his second shot better and spin it more. He probably wouldn't have overshot the green. One of Rory's biggest strengths is his distance, and he unnecessarily surrendered that strength on 15 and 17.
