Why is everyone who is doing frontier work wether in ai, biotech or any other field larping Oppenheimer?
I don’t care about your tortured soul just put the knowledge in the bag
That kind of weepiness makes me sick
OK, here's the future of manufacturing in the US. This is how we will Reindustrialize.
- MCP servers become standardized and as ubiquitous as web pages
- MCP servers fully define shop capabilities, materials, etc.
- Every shop has an owned API that provides real-time, first principles, shop-specific DFM, prices, and lead-times
- AI agents design and source by searching for shops with the right combination of capability, speed, and price
Because all of the above requires savvy most legacy shops don't have, they either fade away or pivot. There will be fewer shops, and they'll be at billion-dollar scale.
This will be an ultra-connected, automated, agent-friendly network of shops. It will completely eliminate the need for brokers and marketplaces - the marketplace is the internet, and information is distributed uniformly via MCP and imminently discoverable by AI agents, who handle almost all sourcing and, eventually, design.
Every design becomes manufacturable by default. Prototyping and production speeds skyrocket. Economies of scale reduce costs as a smaller subset of extremely large shops aggregate enough volume to create meaningful efficiency.
This future is created by the organic, inevitable evolution of information-dense MCP servers and the AI agents that use them. Shops that don't have them become irrelevant, and demand concentrates among the shops that do.
This doesn't require new software, or new marketplaces, or shop-to-shop collaboration tools. Not even a little. It requires 1) maturation of agentic physical design, and 2) a small number of highly competent direct manufacturers who lean in and serve this new ecosystem as it develops.

Kyle's right. But it gave me an idea.
What if DFM and assembly reasonableness becomes a CICD like process that gets a full simulation in MuJoCO. We all used to do manual version of this with CAD back in the day. Can you fit a socket and wrench into this gap in the model, do you have backside access for nuts, ect ect.
Eventually it seems like we'll do more sim of this? Then it doubles as assembly instructions? And you get a synthetic data pipeline for training? Seems like mechanical will eventually go the way of coding and we'll be training models almost exclusively on synthetic pipelines?
@andrewmccalip time constant of
data getting ingested to train the models in a way that they make smart engineering decisions
feedback loops on going from CAD to part
will make signal to noise worse for a lot longer than with software.
Moving from individual proofs to large-scale autoformalization requires new tools. We introduce Choir, an open protocol for multi-agent autoformalization that decomposes projects into tasks, coordinates contributions through GitHub, and deterministically checks them before merging.
Choir is modular, open source, and supports Lean 4, Isabelle, and Rocq.

@seld_on@__0xhorror__ Yes this is the point I wanted to make, being close to the Sun is actually not great from a dV perspective, but energy might help with this).
Given how 99% of human activity will be in cislunar for the foreseeable future, that is what really matters.
The thing about a curse is that you have to agree to take on the curse, for which reason various corrupt and petty magicians of the Accusing and Cursing Crafts invest significant energy into educating the target of their curse regarding the many ways in which said target “deserves to suffer” as a consequence of some alleged infraction against the (fake and gay) cosmic moral order.
I would say that the more someone labors to convince you that you “should” be punished, the less power they actually have to inflict that punishment, the more readily you can just reject the curse, and the more effective will be that rejection.
“No, I will not suffer for the sins of which you accuse me.”
“Yes, I will go on loving the gods-blessed entirety of my fate.”
I think we'll see 5x the number of people become hardware and robotics founders over the next 18 months
Why? Because you can rent every step, from design to manufacturing:
DESIGN
- Astra to drive Blender, FreeCAD, and KiCad the way a person would, so you get editable geometry instead of a dead render. Zoo dot dev's text to CAD API if you want it programmatic.
- Or have Claude write build123d code, which is Python parametric CAD, and there's a Claude Code plugin that runs it and exports the STL for you.
PROTOTYPE
- Bambu A1 mini is $299, P1S around $399 on sale. Or skip owning one, JLC3DP prints and mails it for about $20. PCBWay does resin, SLS, and CNC if plastic won't cut it.
ELECTRONICS
- KiCad for the board, Astra can drive it. JLCPCB fabricates and assembles, often under $100 for a small run. ESP32 for wifi, Raspberry Pi if it needs a brain.
ANYTHING THAT MOVES
- Unitree sells a Go2 with a full SDK for about $2,500.
- Hugging Face put out a $399 open-source biped.
- LeRobot gives you the whole train in sim, deploy to real pipeline, and Physical Intelligence open-sourced π0 so you're fine-tuning instead of starting from zero.
- Prototype the policy in MuJoCo or Isaac Lab first.
MANUFACTURING
- Alibaba RFQ for the first 100 units. Check 1688 to see what the factory actually charges domestically, then negotiate. Pietra or Sourcify if you want someone to handle it.
FULFILLMENT AND SELLING
- ShipBob or Amazon FBA. Shopify for the store, TikTok Shop for distribution, Kickstarter if you want the money before you build it.
How to think about starting your own robotics or hardware company:
1. Pick a niche that's already buying weird gear. Cyclists, tabletop gamers, beekeepers, home baristas, dog people with mobility issues. These groups spend money on specific objects and complain in public about what doesn't exist. Or grab ideas off Ideabrowser.com
2. Go read the complaints. Reddit, IG etc Search "I wish someone made," "does anyone make," and "modified my." That last one is the best signal, because someone already hacked the product together and you're just manufacturing what they built by hand.
Also check Etsy!! If 3 sellers are doing a janky 3D printed version with 400 reviews each, the market is validated.
3. Make one. Describe it to Astra or Claude, get the CAD, print it in ugly gray PLA, use it, fix it.
4. Only go to Alibaba or similar once you've sold a few. Message 10 suppliers through RFQ, take the third cheapest, always pay the $50 for a sample before the real order.
5. Film everything from day 1. The first ugly print, the failed version, the box of 100 arriving. That's your entire marketing budget, and hardware is one of the few categories where people actually want to watch the thing get made.
6. Raise the price. Almost everyone here anchors on what the plastic cost. Your customer is comparing you to nothing, because the alternative is the product doesn't exist. Start at 5x COGS and go up.
THIS GOAL OF THIS POST IS JUST HERE TO GET YOUR CREATIVE JUICES FLOWING. Of course, you can build robotics/hardware in a bunch of different ways.
One thing I've learned is data couldn't be more important when you're building a hardware/robotics startups.
These models learn from first person video of a human doing the task, and that footage doesn't exist for almost any job.
So basically you pick one repetitive job people quit over, film someone doing it for 2 weeks, fine-tune π0 on that footage, use organic to sell the first few units and figure out scaling,
5 years ago you needed a factory, a supply chain, and a $1M just to find out if anyone wanted the thing.
Now, anyone can become a hardware/robitics founder.
And I suspect a lot of people will become one!
Vibe manufacturers.
Sometimes events have gravity to nth derivative. This is existential vertigo, 3rd derivative shift towards unthinkable horrors and desecration of nature… which will become as mandatory in competition as the internet.

@Qraaal We may be unprepared for what they say, much like a child is the holiest state of man, perhaps animal mind pure emanation of unfiltered divinity
@thelcjones Unsure why. Maybe I have not been feeding it the right standards/methods, and of course I am not using a big model for this work. Human UIs =\= AI UIs, I suppose. DAGs to the rescue, of course
Our sr mechanical engineer has been using Astra to CAD all day and he agrees with me "almost all design will be done with agents from now on". It's not quite one-shotting yet but with the right harnessing and tools we think it'll get there very soon. About to accelerate
Reliably, every decade, the most published scientists in the world unite to claim: Most of our Science is False.
And reliably, every decade, the world ignores them and returns to business as usual.
Regarding “the science,”this is something you all need to know.
Most published science is fake or false
