This morning I tweeted about a book that I'd borrowed from the library. The author responded. He works for the NYT so this tracks with their whole vibe. Despite enjoying it I'm not going to finish it. Because as a writer myself, I say without hesitation libraries rule.
Because a lot of people asked: I took down the original tweet because it was complimentarily of the book and after his response I didn't want to give him any promotion.
@SouthPhillyJays He's got form for this apparently. What a self-own. Those are rare, as Peralta said.
@SouthPhillyJays Liberals in 2024: love me my pharmaceutical companies; throw shade at lending libraries.
@SouthPhillyJays any author shitting on library usage has the wrong motives for writing in the first place
@SouthPhillyJays I'd bring the book and the screenshot to the library and let them know he isn't a fan. This way, they can spend their limited funds on another author that would appreciate the support. We have a library that displays local authors and rotates indy books by demand. I love it.
@SouthPhillyJays Roxane Gay denounced Rob Copeland's behavior in her newsletter today and linked your tweet. 💪
@SouthPhillyJays @Irene_X_Adler Library purchases are at least as good, and often better than individual purchases as they provide multiple exposures of the author's work...leading to new readers and buyers.* *20 yrs in publishing
@SouthPhillyJays well nothing beats the vibe of sharing knowledge and stories
@SouthPhillyJays Good word of mouth wasn't enough for him. Now he gets to deal with millions of people seeing him be a jerk instead. What a clown.
@SouthPhillyJays My mum requested my book from her library to boost my sales. They said they’d love to get it for her (she’s a regular) but their small budget was allocated to more popular books/writers. I gave the library 2 copies for free. They have all 3 of my books now.
