In science we are studying plant life cycles. We have planted bean and radish seeds to compare their growth cycles, and are trying to root cuttings of African violets. We’ll keep you posted! We are also focusing on Lent and trying to remember our growth in holiness.

During Lent we are focusing on how we can spread the love of Jesus. Each day we will remove a link from the chain hanging on the cross and follow the challenge it gives us. The last one was to do something kind for a friend.

It has been a busy week. We read about the Wright Brothers first flight and tried flying planes of our own. Presidents caught our attention so we made Venn Diagrams comparing Washington and Lincoln. And we love our new geometric shapes kit.

To honor Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. we performed a choral reading, “I Have a Dream” for our parents. We also sang 2 songs in his honor. Daily we pray for peaceful solutions in our world.

Snow, snow, snow! It’s outside and inside. We cut snow flakes by following a pattern we looked at, and then we cut them freehand. No 2 snowflakes are exactly the same and ours follow that rule. They show the uniqueness and beauty inside each of us.

In math we are learning about angles. Understanding right angles, angles greater than right angles, and angles less than right angles was a lot easier when forming the angles with bendable straws. And then we decided to create with those bendable straws . . . What fun!

What exciting things we learned this week in Science! Charged balloons attract other materials as long as we had a positive and a negative charge. We tried lots of objects . Some were affected by static electricity and some were not.

We worked hard preparing for Christmas. Daily we hung symbols on our Jesse Tree and read scripture stories leading up to the birth of Jesus. We were also busy creating gifts for family and friends. May you have a Blessed Christmas and peace in the New Year!

For Advent the students are pledging to do kind acts. They are writing their promises on scrolls and placing them in the manger while praying a special prayer. Advent wreaths can also be found in each classroom.

To supplement our curriculum we use learning games. PAC Man helps us strategize as we use our math skills, and our place value games help in using 6 digit numbers. “Baloney” opens a wide range of general knowledge. What should we choose today?

We are really enjoying multiplication. Today we made arrays discovering all the ways we could make equal groups with the same number of crayons. We are also making flash cards to study in order to memorize the facts.

What an exciting week it has been! We are working on STEM skills using our new Blocks and Blueprints Learning Center. And Halloween brought a Cooking Corner recipe, the Fun Fair, and costumes. And math brought multiplication at long last! We’re moving right along.

This being the month of the rosary we have learned how to pray the rosary. We prayed a decade a day for peace in our troubled world.

Many steps led up to this chart. First we learned about tables and graphs. Next we made applesauce and tasted it, yum! We also tasted apple juice and slices of apples. Then we made the Tally Chart, Frequency Table and Picture and Bar Graphs to show our favorite.

Thank you to all who supported our Chalk Walk. Rain or not we certainly had a great time! And all of our experimenting with force and motion has prepared us for this chapter test. It has helped us really understand the concepts.

Learning the basic facts of addition and subtraction with speed and accuracy is important. We have games to help with this skill. One student has mastered the skill answering 100 facts in 3 minutes. Congratulations!

Our new Science book has us experimenting with force and motion. Today we built ramps of different sizes to test distances. So many variables changed the distances we measured.

Room 105 has started a Kids Kindness Club. First each interested student had to apply for membership and then complete 10 kind acts and share them with the class. Today 2 students became the first official members. Congratulations!
