One year ago today, America watched as an unspeakable evil unfolded at Robb Elementary in Uvalde, Texas. 19 precious, young children and two dedicated teachers lost their lives that awful and devastating day. Uvalde, Texas, and America will never forget them. 1/x
I was in Uvalde the next day at the vigil held for the victims—weeping, mourning, and praying with the community. Heidi and I are lifting up in prayer the families, friends and loved ones of the Uvalde community. 2/x
I have continued my fight in the Senate to pass meaningful legislation that will actually protect students and teachers from evil. 3/x
The Securing Our Schools Act would double the number of police officers in schools and also significantly increase the number of mental health professionals who can identify at-risk students to get them help before it’s too late. 4/x
@SenTedCruz Turning schools into prisons isn't the answer.
@SenTedCruz We need to end "gun free" zones. These shootings don't happen in banks or federal buildings because there's security there. The experiment with asking criminals nicely is over.
@SenTedCruz That is such a common sense solution. Thank you Senator!
@SenTedCruz Are private schools also included in this bill? If not are private school children not worthy of same protection?
@SenTedCruz Harden the targets, that's the key.
@SenTedCruz Before we had a school resource officer, we’d always patrol around the schools and walk through at different times.
@SenTedCruz Think social media has a part of the problem 🤔
@SenTedCruz So that there will be twice as many cowards waiting in the hallway for an hour? How about legislation that would fire any police officer who didn't immediately act, and bar them from future service, instead?
@SenTedCruz How about decreasing the number of semiautomatical weapons and background clearance of every weapon-holder... Or do you prefer high-security schools like a prisons...?
