@nickdaschel If you ask most NYers if they're willing to go like 5 miles to get a deal on something, they'll look at you like you asked them to travel to Mars and then walk to the store that's 200 feet from their front door (this was me 20 years ago)

@nickdaschel I think the stores are going into low-income areas that are underserved by private grocers. As someone who has lived in NYC I highly doubt middle- and high-income folks will go out of their way to travel to these neighborhoods to get a discount on a few things, they'll stay local

This is and always has been a single, you can't win on a walk-off by multiple runs unless it's a home run

@VinMerchant Yeah, media and the broadcast and I think even scoreboard at the stadium initially got it wrong but there’s no scenario in which the game could have ended 8-6, the rules don’t allow for it. Arraez touching home or not is irrelevant, his run can never count.

@VinMerchant They had that wrong, I'm an official scorer and I've had this exact situation a number of times over the years. The game was over when the go-ahead run scored and Arraez would not have counted even if he touched the plate. Rule is attached.

@VinMerchant Rule 9.06(f) covers this situation, the scorer is required to record this as a single and only 1 run scores to make it 7-6. Batter only gets credit for as many bases needed to score winning run unless it’s a home run, in which case all runs are allowed to score via rule 9.06(g)

@MLUnleashed509 This is a rule 9.06(f) play, the game is over when the go-ahead run scores and the batter is awarded only as many bases as needed to score the winning run. So it's a single and the score is 7-6. There is an exception in rule 9.06(g) that allows all runs to count on a walk-off HR

@JimmySt88 @PistollPete11 @Orange_BlackPod @PavlovicNBCS This is covered in rules 9.06(f) and 9.06(g) in the rulebook. On a walk-off HR, all runs count. On any other walk-off hit, only the run(s) that put you ahead by 1 to win the game counts. So in this case, only 1 run counts to make it 7-6 and the batter gets a single.

In this particular case it doesn't matter that the ball bounced over the fence. This scenario is covered in rule 9.06(f) in the official rulebook.

@jc_bradbury Every single one of these cities still had 1 or more “big 4” teams after these departures except the last 3, which are small markets that only had NHL franchises because of the merger with the WHA. Thus this chart is meaningless to the situation in Portland.

I don’t get the consternation over this. The egregious dive is what brought the original yellow on the ARG player so it seems appropriate to redirect it to the diver. Sucks he already had a yellow, but just don’t dive and you still got 11 guys.

@BaneZierman I've seen how appeals are done, and I've read the reasoning behind many denied appeals. They aren't hard to find if you're in the scoring world, but most scorers don't have a twitter following to report to. The decisions that are changed are found here: mlb.com/official-infor…

@BaneZierman I'm an official scorer in the minors, appeals are usually only publicized when they are upheld because MLB has to issue a correction to stats. There's nothing released about denied appeals because nothing has changed.

@BaneZierman Scoring appeals are not public, they are only publicized when successful because stats change. Most denied appeals are never made public. In this case, there was a lot of interest and he has connections so he tracked down the answer.

@DanKilpatrick3 @Will_Semmer If he immediately returns to 2nd base (which he does) there’s no abandonment. It’s risky because he can simply be tagged out when he’s off the base, which is why you don’t see this very often.
