🚨 SEALIGHT INVESTIGATION: 🇨🇳Beijing's "Backbone Force" in 🇵🇭Manila
You've probably never heard of the Federation of Filipino-Chinese Associations of the Philippines, or the big Southeast Asian conference it just hosted in Manila, where a Chinese Party-state official instructed delegates to "tell China's story".
In fact, even if you belong to one of the more than 200 ethnically Chinese civic groups it claims to speak for, you may not have heard of it.
The federation's leaders appear to want it that way. After all, nearly everything it publishes is in Chinese ... because although it is virtually unknown to most Filipinos, FFCAP is very important to Beijing.
China's embassy helped create FFCAP in 1977, and its ambassador personally swore in its current officers. Three quarters of its trustees are Chinese citizens.
In 2023 the United Front Work Department hosted a large FFCAP delegation at UFWD headquarters in Beijing, where a council chaired by a CCP Politburo Standing Committee member called it the "backbone force" in the Philippines for its fight against Taiwan independence.
FFCAP's official government filings say it exists to promote "camaraderie." They leave out its pledges to advance China's agenda for Taiwan "under the guidance of the Embassy," and a ₱1.5M gift worth more than twice its reported annual income.
Next June FFCAP turns 50. Once again most Filipinos won't hear about the celebration -- which is sure to be big, lavish and include UFWD leaders from across the region -- because it won't be reported in a language they understand.
But if you read the full SeaLight investigation (link in the comment below), you'll know where to look! 🔍

THE BASHI CHANNEL SQUEEZE: WHY SUBSEA FIBER CUTS ARE A NATIONAL SECURITY CRISIS
Have you experienced internet slowdowns recently? Globe and major telecoms are rerouting traffic after a subsea fiber break disrupted connectivity across the country.
This subsea fiber is located in the Bashi Channel / Luzon Strait waters north of Batanes and the Babuyan Islands. This serves as the primary transPacific choke point carrying critical subsea cables that connect the Philippines to Singapore, Hong Kong, and East Asia.
WHAT MAKES THIS A NATIONAL SECURITY ISSUE?
THE TIMING IS GETTING HARDER TO IGNORE.
i
A Chinese seabed-survey vessel, JIA HAI KE 7, was caught spoofing its AIS location while loitering near a corridor carrying critical undersea cables off Batanes. The PCG said the vessel was inside the Philippine EEZ and conducting activity consistent with marine scientific research. China then asserted that the waters off Batanes are under Chinese jurisdiction. The Philippine DFA firmly rejected that claim.
And this comes amid renewed Chinese claims questioning the status of Batanes itself, after Chinese scholars argued that the islands are a geographic extension of Taiwan and should fall under Chinese sovereignty.
Cable outage.
Chinese survey vessel.
AIS spoofing.
Batanes.
Bashi Channel.
Chinese jurisdiction claims.
Are these connected?
We don't know yet.
The Bashi Channel is not just water between the Philippines and Taiwan. It is a critical communications and strategic chokepoint.

Your concerns about import vulnerability and global spot market exposure are valid points. However, this project is connected to a much broader national strategy. The core function of importing LNG is to secure an immediate, reliable supply of energy to match the urgent operational requirements of industrial parks, data centers, and manufacturing hubs in the LEC. While that specific corridor project builds out necessary gas logistics, it runs parallel to the administration's active push for domestic petroleum and gas exploration elsewhere.
To date, we have 14 service contracts already signed aiming to balance these supply lines with newly tapped fields so the country is not exclusively trapped by global market volatility.
Link below is the newest gas field recently discovered in Malampaya.

The inaugural Luzon Economic Corridor Investment Forum officially opened on September 10, 2026, in Manila, bringing together over 600 international investors, industry leaders, and senior government officials.
Co-hosted by the Philippines, the United States, and Japan, the two-day forum running from September 10 to 11 focuses on a portfolio of 38 project opportunities spanning energy, transportation, logistics, and digital connectivity across Subic, Clark, Manila, and Batangas.
Among these, 17 projects feature defined cost estimates, while the remaining 21 have figures currently undergoing final review. The initiative targets more than 20 billion dollars in total investments, anchored by several high-ticket infrastructure and energy ventures:
✔️Subic Clark Natural Gas Ecosystem:
A large scale liquefied natural gas (LNG) platform and pipeline network proposed by I Squared Capital to power industrial and commercial hubs across the corridor.
✔️Sangley Point International Airport (SPIA) Development:
A major regional aviation gateway project featuring multi runway infrastructure and fully integrated logistics facilities to alleviate air traffic congestion.
✔️North-South Commuter Railway (NSCR) Operation & Maintenance Concession:
A public-private partnership contract for the management, upkeep, and efficient running of the 147-kilometer rapid rail system linking Central Luzon and Metro Manila.
✔️Metro Manila Subway Operation & Maintenance:
A private sector concession focused on operating and maintaining the country's first underground heavy rail transit system across the capital region.
✔️Subic-Clark-Manila-Batangas (SCMB) Freight Railway:
A 250-kilometer logistics backbone designed to link deep water ports and industrial centers to streamline cargo movement and cut supply chain costs.
As the Luzon Economic Corridor moves from blueprints to execution, its success will ultimately be measured not by the scale of its billions, but by its capacity to fundamentally rewire the country's economic geography. By bridging vital ports, modernizing logistics, and securing reliable energy, the initiative offers a pragmatic framework to transition regional potential into lasting, tangible growth.

PLA FIRES FLARES AT UNARMED PCG AIRCRAFT DURING MARITIME DOMAIN AWARENESS FLIGHT OVER KALAYAAN ISLAND GROUP
The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) recorded multiple flare discharges by the People's Liberation Army (PLA) against an unarmed PCG aircraft conducting a legitimate Maritime Domain Awareness (MDA) flight over the Kalayaan Island Group (KIG) on 07 September 2026.
Prior to landing on Pag-asa Island, the PCG aircraft was challenged over radio by Chinese forces illegally occupying Zamora (Subi) Reef, which then fired flares in its direction. Chinese forces illegally occupying Panganiban (Mischief) Reef repeated the same actions.
In both instances, the PCG aircrew responded over radio that the presence of Chinese forces on these illegally reclaimed features is a violation of international law, and that the MDA flight is a routine and legitimate operation.
The aircrew likewise observed a considerable number of Chinese Maritime Militia vessels sheltered inside the lagoons of both features. No personnel were observed on the decks of these vessels or on the reclaimed facilities, and no vehicular movement was monitored anywhere on the illegally reclaimed artificial islands.
Admiral Ronnie Gil Gavan said the PLA's conduct speaks for itself. "Flares were fired at an unarmed Coast Guard aircraft. The PCG does not need to characterize this behavior," Admiral Gavan said.
He added that the 2016 Arbitral Award is clear that Panganiban Reef is a low-tide elevation forming part of the exclusive economic zone and continental shelf of the Philippines, and that China's reclamation activities there were carried out in violation of Philippine sovereign rights.
The discharge of flares against an aircraft in flight also endangers flight safety and disregards the duty of due regard that China owes under the Convention on International Civil Aviation.
The PCG will continue to conduct MDA flights over the West Philippine Sea undeterred, and will continue to document and expose China's aggression and violations of international law, in pursuance to the commitment of President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. that we will never yield.

Imagine entering someone else’s neighborhood, sending 56 ships, and then acting like you own the place.
If this is China’s idea of “peaceful presence,” then apparently peace comes with warships and coast guard patrols.
The Philippine EEZ is not China’s playground.
The West Philippine Sea is not theirs to occupy, patrol, or intimidate.
56 vessels. One clear message: they keep showing up because they want Filipinos to get used to them.
But we won’t.
WEST PHILIPPINE SEA: IS FOR FILIPINO SEATIZENS. 🇵🇭

The Philippines will continue to support its troops and maintain its presence because sovereign rights are not subject to another country’s approval or demands.
China may protest. China may threaten. China may label lawful Philippine operations as “provocations.”
But China does not get to dictate what the Philippines can lawfully do to support its own personnel and uphold its rights.
The Philippines will not abandon its troops just to satisfy Beijing.
The missions will continue.
The troops will be supported.
The Philippines will stand its ground.
No foreign power has the authority to dictate the Philippines’ sovereign rights.

THE PHILIPPINES BUILDS. THE PHILIPPINES STANDS. THE PHILIPPINES ENDURES. 🇵🇭
Recent satellite imagery shows that the Philippines continues construction of the shelter port at "Lawak Island" in the West Philippine Sea, despite protests from China.
This is more than construction. It is a declaration of resilience.
China may protest. It may pressure. It may try to intimidate. But protests do not erase the Philippines’ presence.
Every structure strengthened.
Every Filipino vessel at sea.
Every soldier and fisherfolk who continues to stand their ground.
These are reminders that the Philippines is here and the Filipino people are not giving up.
The Philippines will not be intimidated into abandoning its rights. It will continue strengthening its presence, protecting its people, and standing firmly for its national interests.
Lawak Island represents hope—the hope that the Philippines can build, defend, and secure its future despite pressure from a much larger power.
THE PHILIPPINES BUILDS BECAUSE IT BELONGS.
THE PHILIPPINES STANDS BECAUSE THIS IS HOME.
THE PHILIPPINES ENDURES BECAUSE IT WILL NOT BE ERASED. 🇵🇭

As a Filipino, I do not think we deserve this. Sec. Gibo and the Department of National Defense deserve nothing less than respect.

The Philippines has immigration and labor laws that some Chinese citizens and business owners do not respect. The DND steps in not because it is targeting Chinese nationals, but rather because they broke local laws, specifically involving matters of national security, and it just so happens that those involved are Chinese.
‘DI TAYO PASISIIL’ — DND CLAPS BACK AT CHINESE EMBASSY OVER ARRESTS OF FOREIGN STEEL WORKERS
READ: The Department of National Defense on Sunday labeled the Chinese Embassy's statement accusing Defense Secretary Gilbert Teodoro of targeting Chinese workers as “disingenuous
The National Task Force for the West Philippine Sea strongly condemns the aggressive actions of the China Coast Guard, after three Philippine vessels: PCG's BRP Cape San Agustin (fired at by CCG 3107) and BFAR's BRP Datu Paduhinog (fired at by CCG 21581) and BRP Datu Cabaylo (fired at by CCG 3303), were directly targeted with water cannons.
The attack occurred while these ships, along with BFAR's BRP Datu Sumakwel (which faced additional hazard when a militia vessel dangerously towed a rope across its path), were carrying out the Kadiwa ng Bagong Bayaning Mangingisda program to deliver crucial fuel subsidies and provisions to Filipino fisherfolk near Bajo de Masinloc.
Instead of fighting back with force, the PCG wins by simply refusing to leave. Staying on station proves that intimidation doesn't work, keeps international law and the 2016 Arbitral Award alive on the water, and documents every aggressive act for the world to see.
Too Close for Comfort.
The China Coast Guard is distorting the facts by claiming the Philippine Navy started the provocation. When you have a rigid-hull inflatable boat that close to our navy ship, it's a calculated move to create a pretext. They force a situation where a reaction is inevitable, and then they use that reaction as their excuse to escalate.
In reality, the CCG initiated the situation by circling the BRP Sierra Madre at an dangerously close range, using classic gray zone tactics to intimidate our personnel. The violent confrontation only occurred when our troops took action to drive them away from that reckless position.
