This was painful to commentate as the leader got collected in a lapped driver's spin coming off Turn 4. There is little room for error on the IRP oval, but you have to feel for Anthony Martella on this one. He had that race flat handled.

Overall, if you just look at the last eight years of @USFPro2000 champions (the feeder for NXT), five are currently in INDYCAR and the most recent three are in NXT. VeeKay ('19), Kirkwood ('21), Robb ('22), Rasmussen ('23), and Foster ('24) finished first or second in the NXT championship and then graduated to INDYCAR. Of the most recent USF Pro 2000 champions in NXT, Hughes ('24) and Rowe ('23) won in 2025, but are off to slow starts this year. Garcia ('25) is a rookie and just scored his best finish. And NXT is likely the deepest field in 20 years. I don't think you can downplay the success of the ladder in moving drivers into NXT and then to INDYCAR.
Going through the years, it's crazy how few Indy Lights/NXT champions are on the IndyCar grid. 2025/24/23 are there. 2022 is on the sidelines. 2021 drives for Andretti. No 2020 season happened. 2019 is an Andretti Formula E sim driver. 2018 drives for McLaren. 2017-2012 have

A week off after the 500 is also the prime time to fully leverage the excitement from that race. Having to switch to Detroit promotion washes out the residual benefits of an amazing Indy.
