"This struggle may be a moral one, or it may be a physical one, and it may be both moral and physical, but it must be a struggle. Power concedes nothing without a demand. It never did and it never will.” Frederick Douglass ✊🏾@Columbia@IRAASColumbiaU
So...back in 1968. We stood as a student body during the speech of (?) at the chapel, left and took over the admin building. I occupied the dean's office (go figure, future) and got to use the electronic ball IBM. As I recall, the sheriff put the padlocks on the outside doors 1/
Here’s my provost being proud that @BU_Tweets has forced a lot of grad student workers who were on strike for living wages & better health ins back to work 🤦🏽♂️🤦🏽♂️🤦🏽♂️I mean I guess that’s one way to do it.
does @JCHartzell know that students in my morning class informed me that they also don’t feel comfortable returning to campus ? one said “he’ll call troopers on us for any little thing now, how are we supposed to come back?”
A note from a student (who barely missed class all semester) about this afternoon's last class meeting. But sure, it's the protestors disrupting class. @JCHartzell

Given my position, as someone who has benefitted tremendously from academic programs created as a result of student movements - up to and including my future employment, it would be hypocritical not to support student activists right now.
Thurs, 5/2 | 6:30 PM: Discover the history of the struggle for liberatory education. Join the virtual discussion with scholars Leslie M. Alexander, Zebulon Vance Miletsky, Keith A. Mayes & Conor 'Coco' Tomás Reed. #SchomburgCenter@SchomburgCBFSow.ly/eUWY50RkKFk
US university and college administrations, boards/regents, and powerful donors are proving the point in real time: they are a warfare ensemble--they *are* police power.
One university president said divestment from South Africa (unlike Israel) was easy because they already had lists of companies violating the Sullivan principles. Oh, so unis *just divested* without any pressure or demand? They *just* compared their investments to a list? 😂
God bless America 🇺🇸where students have to fear school shootings AND wonder whether the university president has invited armed gunmen and snipers to detain them on campus or not.
Spread this far & wide: the only outside agitators are the police.
There is no violence until cops show up.
55 students, Btown residents, & faculty have been arrested so far.
This morning, police showed up with dogs, armored vehicles, & tear gas.
#ResistFascism#campusprotests
Be teachable. Be curious. A lot of us that have been in the fight for liberation for awhile are trying to show you how these struggles are connected. How anti-Blackness and police brutality show up in the protest space. How land defenders feel on our own traditional territory. 1/
And this is why, long before this round of protests, I been calling for campus police abolition. Their job is not public safety but power maintenance and brand management...
