Venson White spent years in and out of the system. One day, a stranger mentioned MILES of Freedom. That was 10 years ago. Today he's a Senior Inventory Coordinator at @DallasHabitat, 19 years clean and sober, and a proud homeowner. Watch Venson's story from prison to promise.

"Starting Over Strong" is the curriculum at the heart of our Pre-Release Program at the Sanders Estes Unit in Venus, TX. Our case manager, Brian Washington, teaches financial literacy and workforce readiness inside the prison to help clients return home with a plan and support.

In 1994, Richard Miles was convicted of a murder he didn't commit and later exonerated. A witness named a suspect but law enforcement never turned it over. Texas passed the Richard Miles Act in 2021. Now, police must disclose ALL evidence at filing and sign a written statement.

Welcome our newest Case Manager, Carmen Olivas! As an intern in 2018, she helped build the electronic case management system we use today. She brings experience in community reintegration and has empowered mothers through educational programs as they work toward independence.

Our new Pre-Release Program has launched inside the Sanders Estes Unit with 30 men preparing to return home within 6 months. The program begins reentry support before release to give participants the tools, guidance, and foundation needed to navigate the realities they may face.
