One of my favourite things I was able to do during my time on Fall Guys was make a mini editorial team, comprised of marketing and narrative writers. The craft of writing is important to me, and it was pivotal to the Mediatonic brand too which has always had phenomenal writing
Look no further than all @edfear’s work throughout the years! Whilst I could not snag him as he was working on other cool stuff (rude), I got to pull together folks like @j_gestalt and @GameDevIdeas, plus a host of stellar contractors
It was such an interesting challenge and opp having a narrative writer on the publishing side, but due to the nature of the game it made sense. But it meant needing to find ways for the writer to work within dev & pub teams, and creating *a lot* of touch points for stakeholders
Marketing a live game over years can be tricky for engagement and so exploring world building, characters, and story in our marketing mix was a great way for us to try to connect with people emotionally. Games is an ecosystem and so this filtered back into the game too—when poss
Plus as the Brand Director it was a dream, as I could work with our dev leads to craft the messaging, and then keep it uniform and tight from there, through to MOTDs, blogs, press release, and our consumer products and working with our CM team on the few narrative live events
While marketing copywriting and narrative writing are very different fields, it also felt like a great opportunity for the individuals to have a team to bounce things off, appreciate the craft and nerd out on en dashes with (that last bit is me)
It stemmed from me handling the Comms plus the Marketing throughout most of my time there allowing @OliverAge24 to really focus and alchemise some brilliant work on the community front
It was tough (tougher now with AI). But it brought me a lot of joy. And it was so unique I’m not sure I’ll have a chance at doing something like that again. While I’d love to do something similar dev-side for a narrative team it seems to hard to break into even 10+ years in

@OliverAge24 That CPU of yours is way beefier than my r5 3600, 5900x still an insane contender. You have 4 times the RAM and more SSD space than my build, but my GPU has 4 times the VRAM of yours and is 2 gens newer 😅. Would definitely recommend something like the new rtx 4000 Super series.

@OliverAge24 depends on what type of games you will be playing, 3 gigabytes of vram is pretty bad in 2024
