Wow, so brave, two cis-white-men throwing their community under the bus to align themselves with “powerful people”. What privilege. Beloveds, I will never tell people not to enjoy the nostalgia of their youth, I will not deny that I’ve enjoyed Harry Potter, and consider myself to be a Slytherin - but what I will never do is stand by Joanne K Rowling. Ever. This is especially considering the complex history and shared struggles within our community. By unequivocally supporting J.K. Rowling, who has made statements considered transphobic and dehumanising, there's an inadvertent alignment with views that not only harm trans individuals but also overlook the significant contributions trans women have made to the LGBTQ+ rights movement. Remember Marsha P. Johnson and Sylvia Rivera - probably not? But these trans women were pivotal in the Stonewall Riots and the subsequent fight for the rights that many in the gay community, including yourselves, enjoy today. Their bravery and activism laid foundational stones in our shared history. Moreover, the stance that Rowling and some trans-exclusionary radical feminists take can inadvertently harm cisgender women who don't fit into traditional gender norms, leading to unnecessary discrimination and gender policing - and physical and mental harm - like in the unfortunate case of Michelle Dionne Peacock a cis black woman who was targeted for “having masculine traits” in 2023. Perhaps embracing a bit of Ravenclaw wisdom and considering different perspectives could be beneficial. Our community’s strength lies in its diversity and in supporting each other. It's not just about shared experiences; it's also about respecting and acknowledging the struggles and contributions of all members, especially those who have historically been marginalized within our own community. Let's not forget the bigger picture and the ongoing fight for equality and understanding for everyone under the LGBTQ+ umbrella. Also my dears, just remember - when you allow Voldemort to divide a community by joining them in hating a minority group you don’t see yourself as being a part of, when that group is under their foot - guess who they’re going to come for next. Your “privilege” isn’t as strong as you think that it is, and you’re on a slippery slope to a Morsmordre over your house.
