Autism is diagnosed as other people see it, not as the Autistic Person sees themselves.
@NeuroRebel E.g. our social communication difficulties (with NTs) is a really good *diagnostic* pointer, but it isn't a *feature* of autism, but of cross-neurotype miscommunication.
@NeuroRebel @Neurodiversit19 Which is why some people think if they can change or eliminate the externally observable presentation of autism (by forcing its suppression) they will somehow cure or eliminate autism. For the Avoidance Of Doubt : THIS IS WRONG AND IT IS ABUSIVE TO ATTEMPT THIS.
@NeuroRebel @determinerik Hmmm yesss. I kinda laughed when the psychiatrist at my work told me; hey think you got misdiagnosed 20 years ago. Best colleague ever!
@NeuroRebel Yeah! I’ve just been this way. I never fucking knew for years!! This is normal for me. Eggs have always been the bane of my existence. I’ve always struggled with sounds and touching! I don’t even know how others view it. If it’s wildly different or just not much
@NeuroRebel This is why I got depression and anxiety because the way people frame autism isn't how I view myself and my lived experience. Thank you for posting this
