@WilliamBurke374 @johnnyrockets27 This is how baseball has always been. Players 50 years ago did whatever they could to get an advantage and win. There’s just more tools available now.

@johnnyrockets27 I think you’re forgetting that these players are professionals? Are they not supposed to do whatever they can to be better at their job? This is a ridiculous line of thinking.

@orchard_drew @MarkHodder33 @BaseballWRLD_ @MarcusS484828 Bryce Harper made his name in DC, it would be stupid for him to go in with a Nats cap

@MarkHodder33 @BaseballWRLD_ @MarcusS484828 Being as objective as possible. What argument is for him not wearing a Nats cap in the hall

@SoftlyAugust Wanting different rules doesn’t mean you can’t compete under the current ones.

@e5bea174de8148b @MikeDro_ Since you don’t believe play by play exists here a link to the database used for it, for this specific game. retrosheet.org/boxesetc/1924/…

@e5bea174de8148b @MikeDro_ No the defensive component of WAR is off of statcast data today. Predating that is Total Zone which uses play by play data as a more crude estimate. It’s imprecise but over a large enough sample size will generally give a good estimate.

@e5bea174de8148b @MikeDro_ Total zone The basic idea of TotalZone is to use the play-by-play information to roughly (very roughly) assign responsibility for hits and outs to fielders and then compare the rate at which they converted fielding opportunities into outs to the average rate for their position.
