Truly remarkable: Poland used to be a climate laggard. Today, wind and solar are increasingly replacing coal in the Polish electricity mix with almost 30% of all electricity generated to date this year from wind and solar. In 2000 coal provided 95% of Polish electricity. Today it is at 51%.

Could New York have 4 GW of grid-scale batteries by 2030? It'll likely require an expansion of the Index Storage Credit program, and some streamlining of the current interconnection process. But it's certainly feasible.

California's midday solar generation averaged 17.8 GW last month - plummeting power prices below zero, but only in the South This is normal for CAISO, and it happens because: (A) transmission constraints along Path 15 (California's biggest grid chokepoint) prevents excess solar energy from being transported North (B) and the excess supply - coupled with the fact that some solar sites will continue to produce power at negative prices - pushes wholesale energy prices below zero Batteries then respond to this price signal, charging when energy is inexpensive, and help shift excess supply into the evening Source: modoenergy.com/research/caiso…
