I reverse engineered Qualcomm's NPU compiler to find undocumented behaviour that affects every edge AI deployment. Things nobody knew: 1. The compiler silently downgrades the precision of your model weights without telling you 2. Memory placement uses HiGHS which is an LP solver (not heuristics) 3. The same model on two different chips with identical reported VTCM can have 33x difference in DDR traffic 4. There's an undocumented internal simulator called Hextimate pricing ops without the hardware Every NPU vendor be it Qualcomm, MediaTek or Apple NEVER tells you how to make the most use of their hardware. I was very close to rage quitting before I finally lost all hope and thought of reverse engineering to understand how NPUs are handled. Read the full write-up below:

Not only was Iran’s nuclear program not destroyed, pretty much all of their HEU was transferred to a tunnel complex at Isfahan that we simply declined to airstrike. This isn’t “new news”, the team over at the Bulletin of Atomic Scientists has shared satellite imagery of Iran’s personnel moving this HEU from Fordow to Isfahan ‘last year’, which they shared before the war was in full swing this year. The Isfahan storage complex isn’t Fordow either, it doesn’t have a bunch of poop-chutes that USAF can drop smart bombs into, it is a storage complex. Seizing or neutralizing that HEU ‘requires’ deploying ground troops. Seeing as the Isfahan complex is right down the street from one of the IRGC and Iranian military’s largest complexes in Iran (with space for at least a corps worth of guys — read, 20k to 30k troops); is a relatively short distance south of Tehran (and the two divisions based there, one of which is an armored division — so another 10k to 20k guys); in addition to the on site security force and a police battalion based like 3 blocks away from the Isfahan complex (another 1500 guys); and that the immediate area is bristling with anti-air assets (that’s why we lost an F-15, and the CSAR helicopter sent to fetch the pilots was all shot to hell)… seizing Isfahan would’ve required dropping in a division’s worth of troops smack-dab into the middle of Iran. Anyone who didn’t bother reckoning with all of the above, but still wanted to “take out Iran’s nuclear program” is just deeply unserious.

You can’t really compare whatever emerges from this MOU with Iran to the JCPOA. Trump still gets enormous credit for militarily destroying a nuclear program that Obama’s deal legitimated. That said, both presidents had to pretend Iran’s thugs and terrorists are statesmen.

It’s as bad if not worse than expected. — The moment it’s signed (Friday) sanctions on the export of Iran oil are lifted. So the regime can start replenishing its coffers immediately. — The US commits to doing nothing to undermine or destabilise the Iranian regime (it started the war to remove it). — The US specifically commits to ending its blockade of the Strait of Hormuz but Iran does not commit specifically to returning the Strait to toll/fee free transit exactly as before the war, with no Iranian control/regulation whatsoever . — All sanctions against Iran will be dropped should phase two negotiations go well. And America will withdraw its forces from the region. — The US ‘undertakes’ to work with Iran and Gulf allies to create a $300 billion reconstruction package for Iran. So America will now become a partner with the tyrants of Tehran, who Trump only recently wanted to overthrow, in rebuilding their economy. — All matters related to Iran’s nuclear capabilities are kicked into the ‘final agreement’ in 60 days time (or longer if necessary). — No mention of Iran’s ballistic missile capabilities or its financing of terrorist proxies. And that’s just about it. When Trump insisted the war would only end with ‘unconditional surrender’ it never crossed my mind he meant his own.

🇺🇦 When asked, a representative from Ukrainian Armoured Vehicles, which produces 155mm artillery shells in Ukraine under licence from CSG, stated that Ukraine is no longer procuring M107-type shells and has skipped contracting the L15 by moving directly to ordering ERFB shells. This change came as part of the country's ongoing effort to extend the range of its conventional artillery. The company has the capability to produce up to 100.000 shells per year but can only import the propellant charges for half of those.

AMD and VIA shipped x86 processors with password protected registers(undocumented). Not in any public manual. You send the right sequence and hidden functionality unlocks. Sandsifter found them by fuzzing. Nobody knows what is behind all of them.

Fascinating. The Russians are jamming the spectrum that Starlink sats listen to the ground stations on by beaming directly at the sats overhead and overloading the uplink. That's a lot of power being pinpointed on a single bird and I wonder if you'll see hardware failures on the sats soon as you're effectively microwaving the front end receivers.

Yeah, no. The PLA’s just as baffled that the US decided to go to war with Iran as DoD is — that was like if Mike Tyson purposefully dislocated his own shoulder months before a potential championship bout with Mohammed Ali. Starting a war with Iran ‘at all’ was just a tremendous own-goal, the US had less than 50 serious bunker busters last year, and we scorched through about half of them targeting the Houthis’ and Iran’s janky mountain fortresses. Those are bombs that ‘were supposed’ to be dropped on PLA C2 nodes and hubs. Now, our carriers are out of position (and their refit/replenishment cycles were already out of whack) to respond to a Taiwan contingency, and on top of that, one of the new ones will be down for the count for at least an additional 3 months.

It is very important strike. Russian army has a system that is capable of jamming Starlink — Peresvet-M system. I was told one week ago that middle strike drone operators felt influence at that direction. Unfortunately, it’s working.
