Why just the 18 Gazans? Why don't we offer a home to all 2.3 million people in Gaza? And give them all free houses and benefits. Let's just get this self-destructive descent into hell over with quickly. (Although how there are still 2.3 million people alive and living in Gaza after all that, y'know, "genocide" remains one of the world's great mysteries.)
A family of 18 from Gaza has won the right to come to Britain with "access to public funds" after winning a human rights challenge in the British courts. dailysceptic.org/2026/07/16/fam…
@thsottiaux The ChatGPT functionality in the ChatGPT app is nerfed. - Chat is a undibutably a second class feature. - The app does not list Chat history from the web for the last two days. - Where are my Chat projects! - Why are Chat chats global (accessible everywhere) and Codex chats not?
@nickbaumann_ It there a plan to link this up with OpenAI subscriptions?
🚨When asked about new taxes, Andy Burnham said “at some point that might be having to ask for a little more"🚨 Andy Burnham isn't even Prime Minister yet but he's already talking about raising your taxes AGAIN. We are heading for another summer of chaos with Labour obsessing about who they can tax to pay for more benefits. It doesn’t matter who is in charge, the problem is the Labour Party.
@viktoriaserdult Yet another reason to never by a car from @BYDCompany.
Save The Children distributed $23M in cash in Gaza between November 2023 and June 2025. Cash and Voucher Assistance is the single most guaranteed way to ensure aid money reaches the hands of terrorists. It is a global problem. My paper, Cash To Terror: henryjacksonsociety.org/wp-content/upl…
Andy Burnham increased the debt of the Greater Manchester Combined Authority by 28.8% (£300m) during his tenure in office, leaving it with the highest debt of any combined authority in England. If he expands this track record to the whole of the UK, that would mean an equivalent national debt increase of about £860 billion, taking UK debt towards £3.85 trillion. The debt-to-GDP ratio would rise from 95.1% to 122.5% & at an average interest cost of 5% we'd pay an additional £43bn in interest costs each year. High spending Andy could be a very expensive choice for Britain.
@thsottiaux On Windows, the prompt editor is broken. It does not handle line breaks on pasted text (they are there but not displayed, the cursor disappears when moving through them). Scrolling could only be described as erratic. Adopt a robust Markdown editor component like Atomic Editor.
🚨 Andy Burnham’s leadership is already in chaos. He’s REFUSING to answer any questions about his plans for our country until September! He’s going to be Prime Minister in six days time. What is he hiding? 🐔🐔🐔
@UniofOxford Air conditioning should be mandatory on all public transit and strongly encouraged in building regulations.
The control room engineers at the NESO balance Britain’s electricity supply and demand. If they don’t get it right, the lights go out and people die. This is, in part, why I have been approached by multiple whistleblowers from within NESO who are concerned that it is getting harder to keep the lights on in Britain. Few things can be more serious. As we saw in last year’s Iberian blackout, without electricity, people die. The allegations made to me are threefold. First, on 23 June, NESO failed to meet standards on constraints and reserves put in place to prevent blackouts. Second, the Corporate Affairs team interfered with operational decisions, prioritising NESO's reputation over security of supply. And third, operational decisions are being kept in ‘live documents’ with no audit trail, therefore preventing them from being accessed for Freedom of Information requests. It is undeniable that the system is becoming harder to balance. And yet, as of Monday, NESO launched an investigation into allegations of bad record-keeping and interference from their PR team, but it will not include whether control room operators think the system is being run securely. I understand that at an all-staff meeting yesterday, Fintan Slye, NESO’s Chief Executive, said “my” allegations were false. The problem is that these are not my allegations – they are the allegations of his own staff. If this remark was indeed said, it would be an extraordinary prejudgment of the whistleblowers’ concerns and would potentially deter other people from coming forward. Ed Miliband and his ministers, in a grotesque show of complacency, dismissed me as “scaremongering”. Ofgem, the regulator responsible for monitoring NESO, are seemingly fine taking a backseat role. As for NESO, their reaction has been to tell staff, who are so worried they have resorted to whistleblowing, that their concerns are false – rather than to seriously consider whether they have a problem. And who will be to blame if it all goes wrong? I fear in the court of public opinion it will be the control room operators, who do an enormous and increasingly difficult service for our country. That’s why I am fighting their corner now. They deserve to be listened to and to have their worries addressed. I can assure them I will not stop until that happens.
Labour is plotting to force users of Netflix and other streaming services to pay the BBC tax. This is because increasing numbers of people are refusing to pay the tax & the BBC claims to be short of cash. There are now 23.3m TV licences in force, a fall of 539,000 over the past year. "You could add a charge onto people’s streaming subscriptions that would be paid by the consumer," said Labour Minister Lisa Nandy. The BBC tax is a totally outdated mechanism that should be scrapped now. People should pay for the TV that they want to watch and not be forced to pay for stuff they don't watch.
@code Without support for OpenAI OAuth, VS Code and GitHub Copilot have become deeply disappointing. I used to be a strong supporter of the open nature of VS Code, complete with a Pro account. The dumbing down forced me to cancel it.
This is a charade. A political pantomime from Burnham. We @Conservatives had an opposition debate tomorrow to vote that parliament sit JUST ONE extra day to ask the new PM questions about his plans Labour just cancelled the debate😡 Burnham is hiding from the press and now MPs
A licence to loot. Is this the real meaning of Mr Burnham's devolution plans? The All Party Parliamentary Group on Local Government, chaired by Labour MP Clive Betts, is today releasing a report recommending that local councils should be free to raise local tax rates as high they want without having to gain the permission of residents in a referendum. Their report also proposes assigning a proportion of the funds raised by income tax and stamp duty to local councils, as well as devolution of a range of taxes like landfill tax & the growth & skills levy. What could possibly go wrong?
The Other $23.6 Trillion: What Decoupling Would Cost China The Financial Times recently reported an EY-Parthenon estimate that the US, Europe and the UK would need to invest $23.6 trillion over the next 25 years to eliminate their dependence on China in critical industries. Wow. Big number. Wow. Very costly. But presenting only one side of the ledger is disingenuous. It creates the impression that decoupling would impose enormous costs on the West while costing China almost nothing. The obvious follow-up question is: What would decoupling cost China? No equivalent study appears to exist, but the answer is likely to be at least comparable—and potentially greater. The commonly cited figure that roughly 30% of Chinese exports go directly to the US, EU and UK significantly understates China’s true exposure. It excludes the vast amount of Chinese machinery, components and intermediate goods shipped to countries such as Vietnam, Mexico, Malaysia, Thailand and India, where they are processed or assembled before ultimately being sold to Western consumers. The relevant question is therefore not simply where China ships its goods. It is where the final demand comes from. Once these indirect supply chains are included, it is plausible that 40–50% of Chinese export production is ultimately dependent on Western final demand, either directly or through third countries. China is also far more exposed to the consequences of lost industrial demand. It has built its economic model around manufacturing on an unprecedented scale. Manufacturing accounts for about 30% of Chinese GDP—while it’s only 10-11% in the United States. A substantial loss of Western demand would therefore ripple far beyond the export sector. It would leave factories underutilised, depress corporate profits, destroy employment, weaken local-government revenues, increase bad debts in the banking system and strand enormous amounts of industrial capital. On that basis, a genuine and sustained decoupling by the US, Europe and the UK could plausibly impose $15–25 trillion in cumulative economic costs on China over the next 25 years. The total could be considerably higher once slower productivity growth, reduced access to technology and the loss of foreign investment are included. The asymmetry is important. The West’s $23.6 trillion is largely investment. It would create new factories, infrastructure, research capacity, software and supply chains—productive assets that the West would continue to own. China’s cost would take a very different form: lost demand, idle factories, stranded assets, unemployment and permanently slower growth. One side pays to build a new industrial base. The other pays by losing the customers that made its existing industrial base so powerful.
The huge investment needed to replace Chinese financing in critical industries highlights the scale of the challenge facing the US and Europe as they seek to reduce Beijing’s grip on strategic supply chains. Can they really afford to decouple from China? ft.trib.al/KeZP3A3
@revishvilig I am a fully bought-in supporter of Volodymyr Zelenskyy. But, any attempt to supplant Mykhailo Fedorov would be a grave mistake. The latter has accomplished what very few could ever imagine. That said, should Fedorov be looking for a job, the UK Ministry of Defence is in need.
