@OfficialJonaveh@VoteHarrisOut@ZackWyatt292052@isdatbeef@TMZ But human lives are special, no?
What makes humans unique from every other animal?
Or are you saying all forms of life have a right to be born and live?
Who/what enforces a chicken's right to life?
Humans eat unborn chickens (eggs) all the time, how is that different?
@CTDudeOnX@OfficialJonaveh@ZackWyatt292052@isdatbeef@TMZ At what stage of pregnancy can a fetus feel or mentally react?
How is physical feeling or mental activity measured?
Is it just the involuntary physical response to stimuli?
Is it brainwaves absent any form of sentience or awareness?
@OfficialJonaveh@ZackWyatt292052@isdatbeef@TMZ Humans aside, what living beings have a right to life?
Where is that right defined?
How is it enforced?
No living beings have a right to life.
It is a human invention, created by humans and for humans.
We collectively decide for whom it applies and where it starts/ends.
@OfficialJonaveh@VoteHarrisOut@ZackWyatt292052@isdatbeef@TMZ Why would I substitute the life of a potential future healthy child with the life of a child that must go through many severe lifelong hardships beyond their control?
And all for the naive view that humans have a right to life that begins at conception? No such right exists.
@OfficialJonaveh@VoteHarrisOut@ZackWyatt292052@isdatbeef@TMZ My nuance in this case has nothing to do with convenience and everything to do with consideration and concern for the child.
There is a limit to how many children parents will have, the birth of a Downs child will typically prevent the birth of an additional future child.
@OfficialJonaveh@VoteHarrisOut@ZackWyatt292052@isdatbeef@TMZ Life may medically begin at conception but there is much more to a human life than that... the very start before any physical or mental development has occurred.
No rules or rights are absolute either, we as a society collectively decide when human rights start (and end).
@OfficialJonaveh@VoteHarrisOut@ZackWyatt292052@isdatbeef@TMZ What an oversimplified view of life.
You would take power from the mother for something with no sentience yet.
Or condemn into existence a life that objectively will be severely physically or mentally or socially disadvantaged.
For the sake of simplicity of argument?
@OfficialJonaveh@ZackWyatt292052@isdatbeef@TMZ I am trying to portray that there is more to life than the start of the physical construction of the human body.
Frankly I find the argument that I should afford the same rights and value to a mass of half developed cells that I would to a sentient being to be absurd.
@CTDudeOnX@OfficialJonaveh@ZackWyatt292052@isdatbeef@TMZ Thank you for advocating my point, life may physically begin as a fetus but it does not mentally begin until post birth.
Where do you draw the line?
Conception?
1st trimester?
2nd trimester?
3rd trimester?
@OfficialJonaveh@VoteHarrisOut@ZackWyatt292052@isdatbeef@TMZ You speak very eloquently, but also unfortunately as one who speaks much and says little.
Your argument essentially boils down to a right to life begins at conception, no?
I think no rights are absolute and I prefer to take an informed nuanced view over an oversimplified one.
@OfficialJonaveh@VoteHarrisOut@ZackWyatt292052@isdatbeef@TMZ My opinion is based off my experience of having been born and being alive for 30+ years.
I have never met anyone in 30+ years who remembers being a fetus.
Hell, most people I've met barely have any memories of their first 1-3 years.
@OfficialJonaveh@ZackWyatt292052@isdatbeef@TMZ Do you remember when you were a fetus?
Do you remember meeting your parents/family?
Do you remember experiencing curiosity about the world?
Do you remember experiencing any emotions at all?
By your logic you commit genocide every time you rub one out.
@ZackRunning@isdatbeef@TMZ I think 2 trimesters is generally enough time for a mother to realize they are pregnant and decide if they want to keep it.
I do think 3rd trimester abortions are ethical when the mother is at risk or there are severe disability risks for the child (like Downs) though.
@ZackRunning@isdatbeef@TMZ I generally support 1st/2nd trimester abortions and not 3rd trimester abortions (esp with fetuses that could be independently viable).
I'm not strongly opposed to 3rd trimester abortions though because I do not view fetuses as sentient humans, but I need to draw a line somewhere.
