@FyresDrago24581 @HanDoesHisBest All monitors have screen tear. This is a problem that has nothing to do with individual monitors, it’s systemic to how the standards work. At high refresh rates it’s less noticeable but still exists. VRR + Vsync solves all problems though.

@HanDoesHisBest Pro: Screen tearing fixed Con: Judder if the interval doesn't match up Variable refresh rate (gsync, freesync) solves this by having the monitor show a frame whenever the GPU is ready. Also relies on vsync for some synchronization stuff.

@HanDoesHisBest Your GPU draws frames. Your monitor requests frames at a fixed rate. If your monitor requests a frame and the GPU isn't done, it gets an incomplete frame which = screen tear. Vsync says "hey I got this previous frame still, show that again until the next one is ready".

@seyerstudios @dark1x Yeah auto is just a static preset choice based on output res. Also, dynamic res is impossible in games that use ray reconstruction. So beyond devs just not caring to implement it on PC because it's complicated, there's also a major feature that flat out cannot work with it.

@jpGameInfo @Wario64 Because the threat of a platform taking your software from you or removing something from the market can be answered with “okay I’ll just pirate it instead” without needing to full commit to custom firmware, if it’s even an option. Access is almost always an option.

@HDRgameAnalysis @mean_mystic @FilippoTarpini We’ll see. HDR in Gears 5 was very well received despite being deep fried to shit with semi broken controls. Given the reception to it though, I kinda expect a similar situation, but maybe they’ll surprise me.

@HDRgameAnalysis I should clarify, it won’t affect the peak value that’s allowed to come out, but it will mean that if something max’s out at say, 600 nits with 100 paper white, when you go to 200 nits paper white that thing is now 1200 nits.

@HDRgameAnalysis FYI, it’s normal for paper white to affect peak, it always does in every game that does it right. It’s a linear scale of *all* values (I.e 200 nits = game image * 2).
