If we consider the development of self-efficacy, a growth mindset, & perseverance as part of our hopes and goals for SEL, then our grading practices need to reflect it. We limit opportunities for kids when what we say and what we do are incongruent.👇🏻
Part of what forced me to rethink my assessment practices was thinking through scenarios. In this scenario, scores over time were averaged for a concept. What does it tell students about growth? What matters more, mistakes or success? What messages do we want to send to kids?
