Dear Digital Diary, Today, this is for the neurodivergents. For the spectrum minds. For the ADHD brains juggling a thousand thoughts before breakfast. For the autistic souls trying to navigate a world that was not designed with them in mind. For the dyslexics, dyscalculics, dyspraxics, the sensory seekers and sensory avoiders, the twice-exceptional, the gifted, the misunderstood, and the wonderfully different. For all of us who are becoming. Yesterday, I read a report on my daughter. In many ways, it simply confirmed what we have always known. There are gifts. There is intelligence. There is potential. There are strengths that can move mountains when properly understood and nurtured. There are also challenges. Not because neurodivergent people are broken, but because learning how to thrive in a world built for different minds often requires effort that nobody else sees. The challenge is rarely a lack of ability; it is learning how to channel that ability. How to manage executive function, navigate sensory overload, and organise thoughts that arrive faster than words. How to protect a brilliant mind from burnout and to remain balanced enough to stay on the rung when your mind is capable of climbing several at once. What I was reminded of yesterday is something I have learned repeatedly throughout my own journey. It takes a team: families willing to learn, teachers who see possibilities instead of limitations, therapists who understand, schools with the right support systems, specialists, advisors, advocates, and professionals who walk alongside communities and us. It takes a team. One day, I hope that support becomes easier to access. I hope it becomes normalised. I hope governments, institutions, workplaces, and schools understand that neurodivergence is not a rare exception but part of the human experience. Until then, I remain grateful for God’s mercies, His provisions, for the resources to do what needs to be done for my children, for myself, and for others who may need help along the way, for the people who have stood beside us and for the knowledge that helps us understand ourselves better. Grateful for the parents who tried their best to understand us long before there were names and assessments for many of these things. Most of all, I am grateful for the grace to keep going, learning, adapting, and becoming. To every neurodivergent person reading this: Your journey may not look like everyone else’s, your path may be harder to explain, and your victories may be invisible to those around you. But they are victories nonetheless. Keep going and keep becoming. The world needs your perspective, creativity, determination, pattern recognition, curiosity, compassion, and your unique way of seeing things. The day begins with gratitude. Yesterday, I returned home to supporters, party members, and stakeholders from across the Badagry division. I was warmly received by my father, HRM Oba (Dr.) Sejiro Olalekan Ogungbe James; Okiki Arolagabde II, Aholu Henwa of Kweme Kingdom; and the good people of Kweme Community. Thereafter, I proceeded to the grand reception at Badagry City Hall, where I was graciously hosted by the leadership of the councils in Badagry Division, royal fathers, and our people from across the division. The gathering reflected the unity, pride, love, and unwavering commitment of our people to the journey ahead. I deeply appreciate the goodwill, prayers, encouragement, and support extended to me. I also used the occasion to once again express our profound gratitude to our father and president, His Excellency Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, for his exemplary leadership, and our party leaders for their steadfast support.
