We’re now running three models: our existing core model, an experimental variant of the core model that could potentially increase note coverage, and a model that will help assess and improve quality as Community Notes expands to new countries and languages in the coming weeks.

This change optimizes a function that identifies explanatory tags that describe why raters found a note helpful or not. We welcome improvements like this, and would love to see contributions that strengthen note quality, adversarial resistance or other core elements of the system

Today we accepted the first Community Notes code change from a member of the public. For the first time ever, we’re now scoring and displaying notes using code written by people outside the company. Incredibly exciting, and we look forward to more. github.com/twitter/commun…

Starting today, you’ll get a heads up if a Community Note starts showing on a Tweet you’ve replied to, Liked or Retweeted. This helps give people extra context that they might otherwise miss.

To maintain Helpful note quality as the program continues to grow, we are locking note status once a note is two weeks old. This approach allows us to optimize the algorithm with a focus on current data while persisting helpful contributions on older topics.

As the program expands, older data comprise an increasingly small fraction of the dataset, and scores on older notes have tended to fluctuate causing some of them to lose Helpful status.

Just launched an algorithm update that keeps note statuses and contributor impact scores more stable as we expand Community Notes. In addition to helping going forward, it boosts existing contributor impact scores by better recognizing helpful past contributions. Details 🧵

We admit new contributors in batches, growing the contributor base by ~10% per week. We’re monitoring quality and continuing to expand to new countries over time 🌎🌍🌏

Contributors spend time and energy rating notes. Today’s change means the typical note that contributors see and rate will be of substantially higher quality, making better use of all that time and energy.

In September, we began requiring that new contributors unlock the ability to write notes by first making valuable ratings. This increased average note quality so much that, today, we are retroactively requiring that all contributors meet these criteria in order to write notes.
