Jason, your Vote to Stay side has offered Albertans no serious solutions to the fundamental problems we face within Confederation. No plan to address the $27 billion Albertans contribute annually to Ottawa over and above what we receive. No credible pathway to constitutional reform. No safeguards against another National Energy Program or a federal export tax targeting Alberta oil. Instead of addressing these serious issues, you resort to name-calling, Trump comparisons and dismissing the legitimate concerns of Albertans. Albertans deserve better. We deserve a serious discussion about constitutional change, economic freedom and how to build a stronger, more prosperous Alberta for our children and grandchildren. Option 1 offers more of the same. Option 2 sends Ottawa a clear message: the status quo is unacceptable, and meaningful change is necessary. Jason, rather than attacking Albertans who want a better future, why not tell us what your actual plan is to deliver one?

All the politicians coming out against Alberta independence this past few weeks are solidly in stage 4...."self preservation". They are either fighting for their jobs, such as federal Conservatives MPs like @GarnettGenuis, or they are trying to hide the fact that they failed to secure a better deal for Alberta during their time in power, like @RachelNotley, @nenshi, and @jkenney .

Western alienation is older than Alberta itself. In 1879, Ottawa's National Policy protected Central Canadian manufacturers with tariffs, while western farmers faced higher costs for machinery and limited railway competition. When Alberta became a province in 1905, Ottawa retained control of its Crown lands and natural resources. It took another 25 years for Alberta to gain the resource rights enjoyed by Canada's original provinces. Of course they didn't expect the Leduc oil discovery in 1947, so once again Ottawa's hands started to dig into Albertans pockets. Then came the oil-price controls of the 1970s, the National Energy Program, failed attempts at Senate reform, and more recent battles over pipelines and energy policy. The issues have changed, but the underlying grievance has remained remarkably consistent: Alberta's economic interests can be overridden by federal decisions made in a political system where it has limited influence. Western alienation is more than 150 years in the making. The independence movement is one response to that history. This isn't new, and it won't disappear until the core issues are resolved. We've tried to resolve them for generations within Canada with no success. There will never be a sovereign Alberta within a united Canada. Brett, respectfully, Albertans tried this in 2021. Nearly 62% of Albertans voted for equalization reform. Premier Kenney took that democratic mandate to Ottawa. Nothing changed. Why would voting Option 1 produce a different result? Voting Option 1 is a vote for more of the same from Ottawa. If we want meaningful reform, we need meaningful leverage. That's the case for Option 2.

We have paid the price before. Albertans have paid the price before when Ottawa decided our energy industry was a national resource to control rather than Alberta’s economic foundation to defend. We should not wait for history to repeat itself. Vote Option 2 and negotiate from strength.

We have already tried patience. Albertans have tried patience, persuasion, constitutional reform and electing friendly governments. None repaired our structural weakness within Confederation. In 1978 boomers became the majority voting bloc in the country. The first 18 year olds to be able to vote. They held this title until 2016. They were the majority in the house until last year, and the majority of the senate until 2023. In that time they have radically changed the demographics of America by supporting immigration policies. They were the first generation to embrace no fault divorce and half of them broke their children’s homes. One third of my generation was aborted. They created a legal and corporate system hostile to their sons. But the worst thing they did is destroy the economy. They were handed one of the most prosperous economies the world has ever seen, and they created untold levels of debt. The modest expansions in gdp are overshadowed by the ballooning debt. Their social programs were all paid for by the taxes of their children and grand children. 50x fold increase in debt, 60x increase in unfunded liabilities, 30x increase in interest payments which now exceeds national defense. Less than a 1/3 of boomers plan to leave an inheritance. The belief that the young should sacrifice even a dime more to pay for their retirements is absurd. But hey, at least they’re apologetic and conciliatory about it.

I'm 47 years old. Not born in Alberta. Born in Ontario but packed everything I had in my truck & drove across the country 2+ decades ago for a better life. Alberta isn't just a place, its a culture, a mindset, the people are just different. I can sense the freedom & wild west mentality that permiates society. Ungovernable & free spirited. Salt of the earth good hearted hardworking people. My kind of people. I worked hard and fit in. Grew a good life here. I'm a carpenter & proud to build structures that help children, families & communities. I am disgusted by the Canadian government who I view as evil. Their many actions & decisions prove they don't value our lives. So I stand against it. With you. One of the proudest moments in my life is when Albertans around me told me I'm Albertan too. And I try every day to continue to earn that. These people are my friends & family. And I would defend Alberta with everything I have. So millions of Albertans can one day have hope, real freedom & protected human rights i'm voting for Option #2. Ride or die. Free Alberta.

What a weird argument... and Peter's not the only one who thinks like this. I've heard this many times. His quote: "So, what happens when Ottawa says no, or when other provinces refuse to support the changes being requested? My concern is that every rejection becomes fuel for the next argument that Confederation doesn't work and it keeps the dream of separation alive, along with all of the economic uncertainty that comes with it." It's not fuel Peter. It's proof that Confederation doen't work. We have valid grievances, and we're requesting changes to our Constitution, but those who benefit hugely have been rejecting our requests for 121 years. How much longer do you want us to try? You just don't want us to ask any more. You want us to shut up and take it....for the sake of the economy. That's a weak argument Peter.
