Can we stop using Roman numerals? They're antiquated and tedious. Open to arguments to keep them in use.

The trouble with gendering people thru history ("the first woman..." "he did XYZ...") is that we have no idea what their gender identity or pronouns would have been. They likely didn't have the words, let alone safe spaces to explore and live their full expressions of themselves.

Maybe one could say they've hit a new pandemic low when they begin drinking Prosecco straight from the bottle on a Tuesday night.

Grades are due tomorrow. This final assignment is already past-due. You would think that's enough motivation to get this last assignment finished, yet I'm wondering if it would actually be easier to pull my own teeth.

If I had a dollar for each time someone in my #gradschool seminars said (or wrote in an email) the word "appreciate" I probably wouldn't have to take out loans for tuition next year. Of course, I appreciate their contributions but please diversify the vocabulary here, people.

You know you're in a graduate history program when: You have to make the difficult decision to read a book in Quick Mode or Slow Mode, the former inevitably resulting in FOMO and the latter taking up time that could be used for other reading, writing, or a full night's sleep.
