A piece of advice to college athletes in all sports: DO NOT PAY 20 PERCENT TO AGENTS. AGAIN: DO NOT PAY 20 PERCENT. One reputable agent just told me he charges anywhere from 5 to 10 percent. "Whoever is charging 20 percent, it's predatory."
@GoodmanHoops 20% on collective agreements is predatory, which is what you’re referring to. 20% is industry standard on “true NIL” deals secured by agents.
@GoodmanHoops He needs to clarify collective agreements vs. marketing agreements. I see many people reposting this, and they will be confused.
This depends on whether it is a basic sponsorship, an NIL collective deal, or value-add deal using the agent’s relationships. It also depends on the level of the player and their market exposure. Better, more popular players can demand more favorable terms with their agent or marketing specific firm. 20% has been an industry standard for sponsorship income, and it is used across multiple sports and continents. Perhaps it’s undeserved. But there are also situations where the agent deserves much, much more.
@GoodmanHoops Expense is only relevant in the absence of value…..🤷
@GoodmanHoops Yea. 20% of $1k deals isn’t the same as 5% of $10mil deals. Give me a break.
@GoodmanHoops Update: Jeff Goodman gets inundated with requests to ID the 5-10% agent….
@GoodmanHoops An agent representing an Indiana Hoosier can probably demand 50%.
