I think OPS becomes overvalued when you factor in guys that aren't a threat on the bases, therefore are walked instead of pitched to. "Batting average plus slugging" has more actual performance value to it imo. The goal is to score runs and very rarely does a run get driven in via base on balls. In today's game, pitchers are willing to walk guys instead of forcing contact by giving in and throwing a more hittable pitch. Give me the guy that gets hits, regardless of single/double/homer.

As much as some people hate RBIs as an evaluating metric, it's the statistic that best captures what the team needs out of the hitter. RBIs plus the context of where the player hits in the lineup gives you a valuable look at a player's value to a team. I think a lot of people write it off without digging a little deeper

@BaseballDudes48 Because "trust the process" doesn't work when you're giving up doubles every time you throw a strike. Pitching coaches HAVE to get results. Hitting coaches (swing coaches) can get buy in from people for much longer.

@JaredB_BSBL They moved to -3 because players were getting injured. Specifically pitchers and 3rd basemen. Do you think only the weaker kids will swing -6s? Or eventually, will there be coaches that encourage swinging lighter bats for more damage?

That's a fair response to this video and the original post. 2 things I'd say: 1.) What age of hitter is his audience? This is valid for younger hitters that don't have complex approaches quite yet. 2.) If you're hunting for your pitch, you're likely using this approach but instead of "hit, hit, hit, hit" it's "my pitch, my pitch, my pitch" and preparing to hit it like it's coming. Even still, I'm sure there's guys that hit like this and do it well. But hitting a well located pitcher's pitch is a losing battle.

@AcunaPlusButler @varshos_glove Because they aren't power hitters. They are good hitters and power is a strength of their's. If they swung faster, they would have more power. Squaring up a baseball doesn't mean a homerun is the result. Sprinkle strength into the equation and homeruns go up.

"Incredibly easy". I'm gonna disagree with you there. A sac bunt is a sacrifice play, but guys mess it up all the time. Bunting for a base hit is a skill that most hitters wish they could add to their game, but don't because it takes dedication and practice. You think bunting a pitcher's best pitch (often 93mph or breaking balls that move) is easy? No sir.

More so than bunting and stealing a base? That's the context of the original conversation. He stated even he could learn to bunt and steal a base, but couldn't ever hit a homer. Albies, Betts and Altuve possess other traits and talents that allow them to hit for power. But they aren't considered power hitters. They are good hitters that sometimes hit homers.
